Planning your next big backyard party requires more than just putting together a shopping list for food and drinks. But when its over you’ll be thankful that you put in the work.
Are you and your friends up for a 3 legged race or some tug of war? How about some cornhole or mini golf, two popular summer games that can be put together in the confines of your backyard or in a park close by. Stage a competition to see who is the best competitor out of your group at a couple different games; whoever walks away the winner gets unhindered bragging rights. If there are several people, put everyone on a team and work together to see who gets the most points.
If you don’t know what corn hole is, you might be familiar with the game beanbag toss that’s very similar. The objective of corn hole is to toss a beanbag through a round hole cut into a plank of wood. There are two ways of playing, one involves counting up the score for every bean bag that goes through the slot or touches the board; the other is easier and has to do with who gets the most beanbags through the hole.
Throw a Party
Throw a party with friends and family but make the decorations and dress attire all about fun in the sun. If you have any leftover wood or building materials laying around, put them together and try to build yourself a makeshift sandpit so that you and your guests can build sand castles, rub their toes in the sand, and pretend you’re at the beach.
Put up a beverage fountain with some fruit punch, lemonade, whatever your favorite summer refreshment might be. Have everyone bring food trays to enjoy and set up a movie projector on the wall to play some great summer movies that make you think of the beach like Grease or Jaws.
Go camping in your backyard by setting up a few tents and a place for a campfire. Be sure to turn off all other electronic devices that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to use in the woods and try making your miniature camping trip as realistic as possible. You’ll certainly get some quality time in without all the distractions.
The great thing about these ideas is that you don’t have to go far to take a nice little vacation. You even have the convenience of your home closely if weather gets bad or you want to enjoy the amenities of household plumbing and a convenient food supply. Sit around the fire after dark and roast marshmallows and hot dogs on a stick while sharing spooky ghost stories or singing campfire songs. And if there is anything you don’t have to make your party the best bash of the summer, like a giant blowup movie screen or mini golf course setup, you can check out your local party rental shop for what you need at a reasonable cost.
