It represents over half the planet’s remaining rainforests and is considered the “lungs of the world”. It includes the largest collection of living plant and animal species in the world. Millions of species remain undiscovered in this region.

The Amazon River carries 20% of the earth’s fresh water and is considered as the largest river in the world on basis of its volume, carrying six times more water than the next six largest rivers combined.

Iguazu Falls

Upon viewing the glory of Iguazu, Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly exclaimed "Poor Niagara!" Considered as the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, this wonderful waterfall system consists of 275 falls along 2.7 kilometers (1.67 miles) of the Iguazu River. The Devil's Throat, a U-shaped fall, having water pouring into it from three sides, is the most outstanding of all, and marks the border between Argentina and Brazil. It provides great sight seeing and walkways and its shape allows for spectacular views.

It is the world's largest freshwater wetland and serves as a lush reservoir of thousands of species of exotic plants and a diverse mix of animals. Heavy, seasonal rainfalls and flooding characterizes the region.

There are two specific parks here that are worth a visit-

  1. The Pantanal Matogrossense National Park

The word meaning of “bonito” is ‘beautiful’, which is very true in case of this beautiful place. The crystal clear water, created by the natural fresh water springs, seen bursting with colorful fishes is one of the distinctive views of this place. The great concentration of lime in the soil around the area is responsible for the transparency of waters here. Wonderful grottoes and waterfalls are the other attractions for the tourists to come to this place.

Some of the activities that one can get indulged in are diving in caverns, observing the underwater fauna and walking along trails in the forest.

Boipeba:

Boipeba is a perfect place for those who seek a peaceful contact with the nature.it is a small island surrounded by the ocean on one side, and the Inferno River estuary on the other. It is a region of unspoiled beaches and coconut fields and also a home to a dense Atlantic rainforest with large variety of flora and fauna.

The island has derived its name from the word ‘mboi pewa’ which means means flat snake, in reference to a sea turtle.

Praia do forte:

Praia do forte beach is good for both wind and board surfing, and also safe for swimming.  The village here is a small and charming one with fishing town section where you can see numerous small boats, in which you can go for sight seeing or fishing. Another of the attractions is the Garcia D'Avila Castle, one of the oldest stone buildings in the country and a wonderful example of Portuguese military architecture.

The beach also encompasses great dining spots, a historic church, galleries and crafts shops, and boutiques

Paraty is renowned for its impressive old colonial architecture, churches, colonial forts and cobblestone streets. Paraty has hundreds of beaches and one of the outstanding one is Trinidade beach. The beach is well known for its natural beauty, parties, nightlife and buzzing music. One of the beaches found between Bay of Paraty and Trinidade contains the Conceicao Waterfall that has drinkable water. Jabaquera is also a popular beach because of its medicinal mud.

The surrounding mountains offer nice trekking opportunities. You can also visit the nearby waterfalls.

Ouro Preto is one of the most popular travel destinations in Brazil, attracting visitors with its charming colonial architecture. Preto is also a lively university town that has been home to many famous Brazilian artists. The town hosts important gold mining industry, although major gold deposits have already ran out a long time ago. Amazing hub!

I really want to go to Brazil, it is one of my dream destinations but I see many people talking as if all that will happen is you will get bitten by a scary spider or robbed in a slum...

This hub has definitely increased my desire to go though!
