Practical Gifts for the Poor and Less Fortunate - Give Love
Giving Gifts To The Poor People In Your Life.
In almost every family, tribe or community, if you search for a short time you will find the less fortunate relations.
Today, in 2015 it is considered scandalous to be poor. Those who are less able to make ends meet are now touted as a weight on North American society. The "new" old philosophy that people who have wealth are better and deserve that wealth more is sickeningly present today.
If the money, and/or resources were tracked back to how many got their wealth, there would be many instances where money or resources were stolen, life insurance policies paid off at the cost of someone's life, unauthorized persons dipping into trust funds that are not their own. Too few people own too much. Greed is making our world harsh and hard, barren too.
I agree it is difficult to actually look at the people sleeping next to buildings, in parks and sewage pipes.
"But for the grace of God..." meaning one day, or week of the flu can turn a persons entire life upside down. Add a few freaky occurrences, a missed deadline, a misunderstanding and many people can find themselves on the skids.
Those who have children and young adults just starting out struggle. A young person can make decent wages, but just beginning costs a lot of money.
As we age, more of our stuff is paid off, or in good running condition. Those kindred who are blessed with more resources can afford to own higher quality items.Better quality requires less or no replacement costs.
Being young and just starting out is difficult. Some do better than others, but it is good to remember when it was not so easy. With some well placed charity, help and good gifts, a new couple and/or young family can have their whole lives changed by a thoughtful and practical gift.

Quotes about the Poor
"I'm scared to death of being poor. Its like a fat girl that loses 500 pounds, but is always fat inside. I grew up poor, and will always feel poor inside. Its my pet paranoia." Cher fromBrainy Quote Poor Quotes.
"If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few that are rich." John F. Kennedy http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/j/johnfkenn125480.html
"Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat." Mother Teresa from brainy quotes. com http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/m/mother_teresa.html
Research For This Article Uncovered A Lot Of Meanness.
I have read the nastiest things on the poor today .
Having empathy for and caring for them seems to be an unpatriotic and unchristian thing these days. In researching for this Hub, many links go to sites with political parties who think the old Jesus was squeamish and goofy, if not weak. That he didn't really mean all that healing and feeding stuff was for give away.
Giving and helping others, is now promoted like there is somehow a new translation. That being Christian is being prosperous, and those who are not, cannot possibly be in god's path. So only help the wealthy have their way, because they spend their money, and it benefits society...
Please don't be taken in by this bad, and hateful attitude toward others. The poor today, will be the middle class tomorrow.
The poor are a despised majority. The trend of hating the poor has come from the wealthiest in the world. They can smash any person or family, change laws by being brought to court over terrible acts, then having the laws changed by out-lawyering and out dollaring any justice system
Surprisingly, when a person gives to those who are less fortunate, it gives right back to the giver. It is an awesome feeling to change someone's life. To bring an ease of burden. Kindness can never be wrong or ill advised.
Do Not Ask Someone if They Want Help From You...
Like trying to discuss sex with your kids for the first time , it is hard to know what to say to those we suspect or know are less fortunates . It is an uncomfortable topic, better left unexplored. Better to blame on the unfortunate, and turn away.
In the meantime, those you know in your community, in your extended family or maybe even those close to you may suffer or have less opportunity to make changes for the better for them and their families.
The ideal way to help, without taking them back to raise, is by practical gift giving . This kind of holiday giving, helps those receiving care and help retain some dignity, and be less shamed. At the same time, these kind actions, will be boosting those who are giving in spirit and heart. Practical gift giving is a way to do some actual good , make everlasting memories and always be a hero to those whose lives you change.
Pay a Couple of Utility Bills
- Take their car in for service
- Help them with the utility bills.
- Used washer and dryer
- Six months worth of laundry soap
- Petrol cards
- Pre-paid Visa or Master Card
- Rent them a cabin fully contained and stocked for a weekend - [National or State Park], let the young couple know what to attain to in their future.
- Pay their auto insurance for one month
- Take care of their July & December rent or mortgage.
Do this as loving gifts from the heart. Giving practical gifts and help, doesn't stop one from going ahead and throwing in some extra groceries, put some gasoline / petrol in their car, or slip the practical one a gift card. This good deed will come back to you sevenfold.
These things are possible from one single family member, or multiple friends and family. Just think of the feeling you will get when you know that you have boosted this couple or family in ways that could have taken them years to accomplish. The more opportunities and breaks they have, they better chance they have for success.
Random Act(s) of Kindness & Practicality
I recently witnessed to a beautiful act of kindness and practicality performed at our local laundry mat.
An older Caucasian woman, hair blue, dressed in green slacks, a cool lime green cotton shirt, and Keds on her feet entered the laundry. The most remarkable thing about her was the twinkle in her eye, and the big smile on her face.
The smiling, older woman entered the laundry mat without laundry or basket. She carried rolls of quarters. There were four or five rolls in her hands.
The place was jammed full of all sorts of people doing their laundry on a Sunday. Young thin men washed, old chunky men dried, women of various ages and color washed dried and ironed. There were a couple of families.
One woman who was tall and the color of mahogany came in the door with four children behind her. A duck line of children struggling to do their part carried in their many baskets of laundry. It took two and one half trips to bring all of their laundry in.
Mother directed and assisted the children and helped set up the baskets in front of the largest machines. Once this was done, they went and sat at a table near their washers watching out while their mother opened her purse to buy coins.
Suddenly, the cheerful senior stopped her and began loading the woman's machines with quarters. The mother was stunned and although she did not shed any tears she was obviously moved by the kindness. The woman who performed the RAK was cheered and energized. She paid for the family's dryers as well.
Practical and Kind.
Keeping Your Elders Warm or Cool Depending On The Time of Year
Keeping Grandma and Grandpa Cool.
These days of escalating utilities, high costs of medicine, and all other unexpected medical costs or illness, can have our elderly struggling to stay cool enough to survive summer in their homes. Often it takes every penny for an elderly person, disabled or vet to live. The basic needs are many times unmet.
Many people have been burned by scammers and users among acquaintances, friends and family, and in the community. This doesn't mean help cannot be given in a meaningful way, and that there are many loved ones, neighbors and strangers who could use a hand up.
Who is Your Neighbor, Who Are The Elders?

"...he said lord, who is my neighbor" it turns out he's me and you. Pine Ridge Reservation has elderly and children who need donations to keep warm this winter. A garden box would help too.

Kitchen Tools That Last For Years
I have always thought that a crock pot was an economical, and healthy way to do the cooking while busily trying to take care of a home, but after reading hundreds of reviews on new crock pots, I am sad to say that it would be better for a new family to receive a ceramic cast iron cooker.
These are not as easy to lug around or clean, but they are more economical and perform from the stove-top to the oven.
...Add The Flavor of Love to Your Gifts
...to make this type of gift one that lasts forever is to give this gift in an interactive episode.
- One way to do it is on the day of Christmas when the gift is opened, go to the kitchen put your aprons on and teach by doing. Showing the new family how to use their Enameled Cast Iron Covered Casserole dish, will give them confidence.
- The second way to give this thoughtful and resource saving gift is by inviting the cook over and asking for their help in preparing a large pot of chili or roast. When the brew is done let the gift recipient know that they have a new cooking pot of their very own and let them take the meal home to their family.
For those veterans of the kitchen it is easy to forget the terror in the beginning. Possibly an entire generation has skipped cooking from scratch. As a young adult Lilly can remember looking at a rice cooker and feeling overwhelmed by something that is really easy to operate.
Give with love.

Give Love - Help Create a Small Garden Space
A Raised Vegetable Garden, A Perfect Gift
Give a gift of a garden. Individuals and families struggle to put fresh vegetables and herbs on their table. With their own garden, they can raise enough food to supplement their food supply.
For the loving giver who considers a garden a good gift, taking the time to share the knowledge can add mentoring to the gift. Many young people as well as older citizens never have had their hands down in the soil. Think of the satisfaction of knowing that you gave a gift of a lifetime!
It can be a small community plot to help a poor little neighborhood or community as well.
The family that plays together, stays together
Roughing it can bring on memorable experiences, it can also making camping difficult with a family with small children.
Making a gift of camping gear, to a young family or couple, can help set a precedent in their lives and the lives of their children to love nature and the outdoors. It also teaches survival skills and gives a person a time and place to 'get away from it all' and meditate awhile. A way to get the kids unplugged from the video console. An opportunity to help a family learn to play together in a healthy and strengthening way.
Keep The Elders Warm - Help Them With Their Heating Bill
We must remember to respect the elderly and those who have lived before us. They have a lot to give and share. Sometimes they are so proud they will walk with newspaper taped around their legs to keep from freezing to death in their own homes.
The elderly should be taken care of and part of the family. Keep them warm this winter. The old men and old women have already given so much, please help and keep them warm this winter. We will all become elderly if we do not pass...
Automotive expenses can take a chunk out of a new couples budget
- Windshield Wiper Blades
- Oil Change
- Insurance Premiums
These things can be a giant expense for a family who is lower income. They work hard, make enough money to take care of necessities.Or, worked hard all of their life and are living on $400.00 to $600.00 because of the Social Security structure. They get $10.00 in Food Stamps that comes out of their pay. A little savings can be gone in moments when having to purchase tires, or a battery.
A young couple starting out can really struggle buying auto and homeowners, or renter's insurance. There is usually a large down payment, or a sizable premium yearly that causes distress and a cutting back on necessities to be able to afford it.
