Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child
A Wonderful Way To Share
For many years now the youth in my church have undertaken a project to pack shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. The announcement was made several weeks ago and this afternoon the youth came to our fellowship building for a light supper and to pack shoe boxes for children who live in poverty stricken countries and many who have never received their first Christmas gift. We have a small fellowship, less than 100 members but today children, whose ages were from 3 years old and up to 13 years of age came to give of their time to pack shoe boxes for boys and girls with toiletries, candy, and a few small gifts which had been purchased earlier in the week.
It was amazing to watch the enthusiasm of these young people and the adults who helped fold the boxes supplied by Samaritan's Purse. It soon became apparent some planning had gone into what the content would be for each box. Ours were made especially for ages 5 through 9 and individually packed designating boy or girl. The items soon filled the small box and were items which can be used for personal hygiene like tooth paste, tooth brushes, soap and a wash cloth. Each box also had a coloring book, crayons, pencils and erasers. In addition, a small stuffed animal was inserted into each box along as well as a few small toys suited to the sex of the child.
We also included a card which had Bible stories. The cost to send each box is only $7 and ultimately will be shipped to the countries where there is a need. I am proud of our youth and the adults who helped today with this project. Each box was packed with love and after completed, a special tag designating "Boy or Girl" was attached as we held them close to our hearts as we prayed asking God's blessing on the transportation of the boxes and the recipient who will receive these boxes.
The cutoff date for packing and mailing shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child is in mid November. If you have a desire or your church youth group would like to become involved please follow the links at the bottom of my hub. This is one way to really give and know your gifts will go to a child somewhere in this world where there is poverty and the needs great.
