Real Santa Claus Sightings

Updated on May 9, 2011

There have been several times in my past where I have had a very real and vivid visit from Santa Claus. No, I'm not talking about Santa's helpers down at the mall working their four hour shifts wearing their fake beards and itchy Santa suits. I mean Santa, the head honcho himself. The real deal. The blue-eyed man himself.

There are many that believe that Santa is only for children. I highly disagree with that notion. Santa does not discriminate.

Santa Claus only appears to those who truly believe in him. Once you stop believing, he no longer comes to visit you.

When is the last time you saw Santa? Perhaps it's time you believe once again.

My Childhood Sighting of Santa

Christmas was always an exciting time for me growing up. I was an only child so all of the focus was on me Christmas morning. My mother was a stay-at-home mom and my dad made a modest income. If you've read my hub about my father then you'll understand just how frugal he was and realize that even though I was an only child, Christmas wasn't necessarily a time for KCC to get everything she wanted.

One particular Christmas when I was around six or seven years old, I was asleep in my bed on Christmas Eve. I'd like to tell you that visions of sugarplums were dancing in my head, but I'd be lying. Sugarplums aren't a big part of Texas Christmases. At any rate, I was fast asleep when something caused me to flutter my eyelids open. The way my bedroom was in relation to the living room, it allowed me a direct view of the Christmas tree. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of Santa's coat. It was unmistakably red and white. I closed my eyes tightly as the these words rang in my ears,

"He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake"

It really upset me that I was probably about to lose it all. He would know that I'm awake and he'd leave. I forced myself back to sleep as quickly as I could.

I dreaded looking towards the living room the next morning. I just knew the tree would be bare. I was so relieved to see that Santa left me plenty of gifts.

An Adult Sighting of Santa

In the mid-80s, I was out shopping at K-mart with a friend and her two small children. I was married but didn't have any children yet. Her children were around 2-4 years old and both easily fit in the basket of the shopping cart. My friend and I were having a good time shopping and chatting and a couple of times the kids interrupted us to tell us they had seen Santa Claus. We would turn around and we saw nothing. We dismissed the idea as the kids just being silly since K-mart wasn't a place that Santa normally set up residence in for picture taking and we really didn't expect to see Santa there.

We continued shopping and the kids once again insisted that Santa was there. My friend and I turned around to see Santa standing right next to us. It gave me goosebumps as he winked and turned to walk away. My friend and I just looked at each other with our jaws sagging. Where did he come from? He disappeared down the aisle without saying a word.

I Saw Santa Dec 19, 2009

My husband and I decided to travel to Ft. Worth, and what before out wondrous eyes did appear? Santa in a red Corvette convertible! Out of nowhere, there was Santa. As fate would have it, we ended up near Santa in some backed up traffic just south of Ft. Worth that enabled us to catch some photos of him.

So, I'm happy to report Santa is doing well. Seeing him put us both in such a great holiday mood.

This is the kind of Santa Sighting I'd like to see these days!
