Star Wars Cake Pan

A Star Wars Cake pan is the ultimate party starter for any Star Wars fan.  As you can see from my avatar to your top right, I am a huge Star Wars fan so this Hub is especially close to my heart!!

Wilton stopped making Star Wars shaped cake pans a long time ago, so they've become very sought after because of how rare they are.  Rumor has it that they are preparing to create a new line of cake pans due to the popularity of the Clone Wars, but as of now there aren't any new ones out right now.

Below there will be some links for you to be able to purchase the rare cake pans at a great price.  I've scoured the web to find the cheapest price on them, and it turns out that Amazon regularly has them for the best price.  There will also be some links for you to check out an awesome Clone Wars cake topper.

Darth Vader Cake Pan

The Darth Vader cake pan is an absolute work of art!  I have this, and have baked it many times over the last two years.  It's not terrible hard to find, and you can expect to pay between $20 and $40 for it.  Paying extra money for the insert and instructions isn't really necessary unless you're keeping it as a collector's item.  The instructions are available for download from Wilton's website.

One major trick that I learned from decorating this cake is that black icing is nearly impossible to get with vanilla icing.  You'll have to add so much coloring that it will turn people's teeth a nasty shade of black!  Instead, start with chocolate icing.  It only takes a tiny fraction of the food coloring and will taste way better.

R2-D2 Cake Pan

This is the most sought after of all of the Star Wars cake pans. The shape of R-2 lends well to a cake, and decorating him is fairly simple. This pan is from the early 1980's and since Wilton makes such high quality pans, it is still in fantastic shape.

A really cool thing that Wilton does is archive all of their cake decorating instructions on their website. This means that even if you get a cake pan that doesn't have instructions with it, hope is not lost. You can download them and print them as you need.

The R-2 D-2 cake is the ultimate birthday cake pan for the Star Wars lover in your life!

C-3PO Cake Pan

The other highly sought after Star Wars cake pan is the C-3PO cake.  Like the R-2 D-2 cake, this one was created and discontinued in the early 80's.  Threepio is one of the most beloved characters from the Star Wars saga and this cake pan is just as epic as the films were.

My favorite thing about this cake pan is that there is a banner to the left of C-3PO's head that allows you plenty of space for a birthday message or whatever you want.  I own this cake pan, and it is a good amount of space that fits most messages that you want to put on there.  The second time that I decorated this cake, I went as far as to draw the Star Wars logo in the open space!

Clone Wars Cake Sheet

Since there aren't any new Star Wars cake pans, this is one of the few options for decorating a cake on a budget.  The sheet is edible (it's made from sugar) so you center it on the cake and you're good to go.  These are the same quality cake sheets that they use in bakeries, so you're getting great quality.

In professional bakeries they would use an air brush to decorate the rest of the cake, but you don't have go out and buy one if you don't have one.  I like to build a border around the cake sheet with icing and use fondant or a thin layer of icing for the rest of the cake.  It's easy and cheap!
