Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Party Supplies and Cake Ideas

Strawberry Shortcake Birthday

I came across these gorgeous Strawberry Shortcake birthday party photos on flickr the other day. This birthday party was hosted by Valerie (vgkchick) for her daughter's 1st birthday. Valerie was kind enough to grant me permission to display her birthday party photos on my page. She has also shared some of her party details with me. Valerie is a scrapbooker so you will notice that she incorporated many scrapbooking techniques in her birthday party planning.

Some of the highlights of her party include: Fondant Flower Cupcakes, a "Smash Cake", a beautiful Birthday Cake, Sweet Jars, Treat Table, Strawberry Tree, Treat Boxes, Pinwheel Centerpiece, Custom Party Outfit and Birthday Girl Sign.

Valerie gathered many of the party supplies over a few months, so she would not have to try to pull everything together at once. Also, the cakes were baked earlier in the week, and then decorated at the end of the week. It is too difficult to do at once, especially with two little ones running around!

I hope you enjoy viewing these party photos. I am sure you will love them as much as I do. Please take a moment to stop by Valerie's flickr gallery and drop her a note. I am sure she will love to hear from you!

Strawberry Shortcake "Smash Cake"

Strawberry Shortcake Cake

The "Smash Cake" was made with two small round pans and covered with store bought fondant. The edible sugar strawberries that surround the cake were purchased from a local cake store. The birthday cake was topped with a Wilton Strawberry Shortcake candle.

Smash Cake is the tradition of baking your one-year-old birthday child her very own cake that she can do whatever she likes with. Often people make two cakes on the first birthday occasion. One of the cakes is to share with the party guests and the other cake is meant to be destroyed by the birthday child. This makes for great photos to treasure for years to come!

Flower Fondant Cupcakes

Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes

Valerie baked the cupcakes in Strawberry Shortcake baking liners. She then dyed the fondant pink and cut it with a round scallop cookie cutter.

The scalloped fondant pieces were then placed on the cupcakes.

She accented the top of the cupcakes with dimensional paper flowers from Martha Stewart's Zinnia line. These 3D flower stickers have multilayered petals with glitter centers and the colors (green, yellow, orange and pink) coordinated with the party décor beautifully.

The finished flower cupcakes were than displayed on a fun Cupcake Stand.

Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Cake

Strawberry Shortcake Cake

The larger Strawberry Shortcake cake was baked in a specialty cake pan. Valerie's mom had saved the pan from her Strawberry Shortcake party when she was little. So, she had to use it!

This cake pan is retired, but it is still available for sale. If you purchase one of these pans and it does not come with the original instructions, you can download them here. The pan instructions include the icing colors and decorating tips needed to create the design.

Sweet Jars

Treat Jars

The jars of jam were purchased from the dollar store. Valerie did not want to have to make the jam from scratch and you just can't beat a dollar a jar!

She cut out strips of strawberry scrapbook paper and attached them to the jars using double stick tape.

She had stamps that said "You are sweet". She stamped this onto cardstock, punched them out into scallop shapes and attached them to the front of the jam jars.

For the top of the Sweet Jars, Valerie cut out squares of fabric with pinking shears and tied with pink ribbon.

Party Table

Strawberry Shortcake Party Table

For the table Valerie purchased an inexpensive plastic table cover and then used a yard of Strawberry Shortcake fabric as the table runner. It is an inexpensive way to get a little pop of color without having to spend a lot. She also used a combination of Strawberry Shortcake supplies and pink party supplies for the plates, cups, napkins, etc.

Treat Boxes

Strawberry Shortcake Treat Boxes & Candy Table

The treat boxes are made from green cardboard sheets. Valerie has a die and used it to cut the boxes. Since she just had to make them for two little girls, she put candy rings, little tiaras, bubbles, and little slinky's in them. Then she tied the boxes with tulle and ribbon.

Valerie also decorated the treat table with delicious candies.  Visit my Strawberry Shortcake candy favors page for strawberry themed candies including Bon-bons, gummy candy, hard candy, strawberry shortcake candy plus sweet candy buttons and necklaces.

Pinwheel Centerpiece

Strawberry Shortcake Centerpiece

Valerie has a Quickutz pinwheel die cut which she used to create this Strawberry Shortcake table centerpiece. She has made pinwheels in the past from a template.

They are really fun and easy to make!

Wonderful hub with great pictures, ideas and full of information. Maybe my new grand daughter who loves strawberries would let me have a birthday like this for her. She is a tomboy though and loves dinosaurs basically...lol...

Thumbs up!

@Dorsi: Maybe you could combine strawberries and dinosaurs into one party theme. Pink and red dinosaurs in a beautiful strawberry patch! Think she would go for it? ;)
