The 58 Sandwich
It’s just last minute jitters I’m sure, but I’m feeling a little nauseated about my upcoming birthday this weekend.
Dangerously close to the ‘S’ word, it can of course put anyone into panic mode.
During the countdown to this birthday (which probably started immediately after my last birthday) I have experienced many mixed feelings.
There are the positive days:
"You are as young as you feel, right? And I feel pretty darn fit!"
And then there are the negative days:
"Crikey, I’m tired"
My mind and thoughts are getting confused.
So to help my poor confused brain, I decided to try the ‘Sandwich’ approach.
The "Sandwich" Approach?
For many years I was an Office Supervisor. One of my most difficult and challenging duties was training and motivating staff. This was where the ‘Sandwich’ came in to play. Briefly this is how it works…
If you just dish out the “filling”, then more than likely you crush personal morale in one swift swoop and confidence ultimately hits rock bottom. However, by softening it before and after (by wrapping it with “bread”), the filling is a lot easier to swallow.
Everyone loves positive thoughts and compliments:
“Excellent, you handled that disgruntled customer in a very professional manner”
This prepares the way for harsh realities and truth - ‘The Filling’:
“Next time in that situation try saying to the customer “It wasn’t my fault” less than 5 times I think it would have more impact”
Finally, it’s essential to pick up the pieces and restore the damage:
“I am sure you have restored the customer’s confidence by providing good customer service”
The ‘58’ Sandwich Poem
I feel good
I feel great
A balanced diet
Nutritious and healthy
I feel inspired
I feel creative
With my camera
Photos of my flowers
I feel love
For my garden
Planting and tending
I think it’s the weather
Got terrible indigestion
My mind keeps wandering
I seem a little confused
I’m growing Ladybirds
Planting dinner plates
I’ve heard Cows talking
Mysterious glowing objects
Have a lie down
Rest my thoughts
Let’s go for a picnic
Burgers on the BBQ
Ice cream dessert
Just you and me
We’ll curl up together
Content and fulfilled
58? So what’s the big deal, life is fabulous!
