This Christmas Day

Where is our Savior

Its Christmas time, 2010, no room at the inn

A child is born, no star to light his way

Downtown doorways shelter the grim

Where is our Savior this Christmas Day?

-------------------------------------------------

Cold and alone, the homeless, they roam

Dine in a dumpster, no star to light the way

Carrying their own is their vision of home

Where is our Savior this Christmas Day?

---------------------------------------------------

Two million this year, sans Christmas cheer

No Eat Pray Love, no star to light the way

Where once was comfort, now lives fear

Where is our Savior this Christmas Day?

----------------------------------------------------

Season of light, season of love and hope

Little dreams unrequited, no star to light the way

No answer to the prayers we spoke

Where is our Savior this Christmas Day?

----------------------------------------------------

So this is Christmas

The Christmas Shoes

...this is the primary reason why you have to keep writing Amy - this is brave, audacious and bold but then again the Amy that I have come to know and admire in her inspired writing is brave, audacious and bold -- this is so good I wish I wrote it - so now you will have a line-up of adoring hunky hot men (like me) watching your every (literary) move ...... but back on a serious note - you are not afraid to speak your mind Amy and that is something that I respect about you in your writing - and actually come to think of it - this is my favorite piece by you thus far - it makes you a serious contender as the bright new rising star here at Hubpages.

Where do I sign up and cast my ballot .......

I love how you put it out there, for all the world to see, so caring, so sharing, the world could use a few billion more like you my dear, dear person. *hugs* and plenty of prayers going your way. Keep writing, we will keep reading.

Dear Epi, I had to try to sign in twice because I couldn't see through my tears. The old "sticks and stones" adage is so wrong. Words cannot only hurt, they can make a spirit soar, which is exactly what your words do for me. You lift my spirit up with so much hope. You make me very happy, Mr. C, and that I'll never forget. You are my friend for life...I am so lucky. You reinforce the presence of our Savior in all the hearts you touch.

Dear BobbiRant, Words cannot express what your support and encouragement means to me. You have altered my path and given me the courage to have a voice. When my journey left me isolated, without friends around me, and hopeless, you bouyed my spirit and made me happy with your words. And I now realize that our Savior is there, in the hearts of those that care, waiting to give a hand. You have given me the best Christmas present ever! Thank you

Beautifully written Amy. Your sentiments and views in this poem are spot on. There is too much poverty and despair in this country this year. Too few people care. There's too much I want more of mine and too much let's take away from those that have little. Yes, this is also part political commentary. Thank you for this poem and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

I see you want to speak out, the truth, and to question. How absolutely wonderful In case anyone starts shooting, run serpentine (joke, line from an old movie with Alan Arka, but I cannot remember the title.) I am looking forward to reading your other hubs, just had to check out at least one to see what you are writing and who you are! Appreciate your comments on my hubs.

Dear Vern, thank you so much for coming over to see me. I am honored. I'll have to check out the Alan Arka movie line. I have always believed that the brightest, best, most beautiful brains are infused with humor. You give proof to my theory.

I love you, L'il Sis.

I couldn't wait to write to you;

I only hope my laptop doesn't

short out from salt water spills.

I'm looking for Him, too

and fear there is no St. Anthony

to help me find Him this year.

Miss Behave 5 years ago

The former was merely a spiritual (?) comment through tears; I doubt in our government even more because of the wars that were promised to be ended, and the new day to dawn. I guess we all see Him through our own eyes if we see him at all. Maybe that is why, the smallest gesture to the humblest or humbled of us all is the one that makes Christmas what it is meant to be. I don't remember bikes or toys received, but my pillow placed under a homeless man's head and the smiling tears that ran down my face as I raced up for more to give him... Our homeless may be teahing us a very dear lesson indeed... I've told you this many a time, Amy, but you are beautiful inside and out and your gift, my dear, is your writing. (Well, one of them anyway :) LoveLee

You are so right about the smallest gesture as the biggest gift at Christmas. I never wait 'til Christmas. The best spirit of Christmas, besides the Kahlua, happen spontaneously all year long. The frantic expectations during the holiday always made me want to run away and hide. Thank you for your beautiful commentary, as you write exactly as you are, lovely Lee. I hope you enjoy, and Miss Behave, in a fashion that gives you the most joy. Life is short.

While reading this a painting I once saw came to mind. It was a picture of a bustling cityscape, with neon signs exclaiming discounts and sales. There were throngs of crowds, and people fighting to get the latest trending toy. In the middle of all this chaos is a pregnant mary sitting on a donkey, and Joseph holding a cardboard sign. On the sign was written "Looking for a place to sleep for the night". Thank you for the trascending poem.

Now you've done it, A.A. Zavala. Your vivid imagry just made me cry. Thank you for "getting it" so perfectly. You have a beautiful, compassionate soul.

Amazing, Amy! You have put into words the way so many of us feel and wonder, where is that loving savior when so many need help? it colors the mood and spirit of the season. The plight of so many wonderful, loving spirits who are caught out in the cold. Your heart is big and encompasses all those who are not as fortunate as others. Bless you for your strength of conviction and fearless willingness to communicate this. Simply said; this is absolutely lovely, even in it's sadness...it is a really good piece of work....and valid, valuable and appreciated!!!!
