Yes, this list is broad but it will help you as you are deciding to choose a gift for the child within that age range. Action figures like Power Rangers, Ben 10, GI Joe, and Transformers are always a hit with boys from 5 to 8 years of age. In fact, Barbie dolls that I don’t list above are wonderful for girls from 4 to 10 years of age.

I like to buy my son toys like an action figures to work on his imagination and this helps him when he is playing. Let your children get bored, they will start using there imagination and it is wonderful to see them start playing and watch as they develop games, people, and places in their little minds. In addition, I like to buy him educational toys as well, like the Leapster by Leapfrog, the cartridge games for drawing, learning your alphabet and sounding out your words.

Keep in mind that children of any age should be playing and playing a lot, not just watching TV. Interaction with parents is very important so I suggest that parents play with their children as much as possible but don’t let your child become dependent on you as a playmate. It is fine line, I know.

As parents, we know that children grow (as much as we hate it) and then start getting more into bikes, motorcycles, skateboards or scooters. Most girls and boys like board games as they get older or camera’s or phones. Not to mention the IPod that is very important for most teenagers. They grow so fast and want the bigger items like a new wardrobe or cell phones. But for my nieces and nephews I try to buy books and board games because I think it is important that the read and learn to play games. Clothes are great gifts but not toys in the teenage years. I love board games as presents because we can play together as a family and I think that is very important for us all.

As your children get older they want to spend less time with you so make sure during all of these years that you have toys that you can play with them, if possible. Regardless if they are wooden or electronic, play with your kids. The Wii is our favorite toy in our house because we have “bowling night” and “baseball night.” It is good for our family; we laugh, and just have fun with each other. So review the toys for your kids, nieces or nephews and think before you buy. Make it special; make it fun and most of all make the toys about them and what they need to develop and grow as the years go by.

Lots of good ideas. I don't have many little ones to buy for so I don't know much about what younger children really like either. Good hub.

seriously, and instead of aclulaty grabbing their dog by its collar [at least] the woman just starts telling it to come louder. I would've never even let my pet go near it, for the Fisher and my pets safety.
