Valentine's Day Card Ideas: How to Make Unique Homemade Handmade Cards

Source

Jewelry making has taken over a large portion of my creative energy for the last few years. However, there are a number of other creative pursuits that I enjoy, including card making. I've recently gotten into it again and thought that it would be fun to round up some inspiring Valentine's Day card ideas.

As always, I am amazed at the creative talent that is out there and can't believe how amazing these ideas are. Enjoy!

Crayon Heart Valentine's Day Card

These crayon heart cards are perfect for kids to distribute to their classmates or for teachers to distribute to their students. If you have friends or family members who are crafty, this is a perfect option for them, too. This blog post has a template for the card with just the heart prints and not the crayon as well. Check out the link below for a heart shaped pan. If you need more assistance with your crayon making, check out this tutorial.

Lolly pop/sucker Valentine's

The author used her kids for her card, but you can use yourself or any other friends or family members. This would be a good one to make with your kids for them to hand out at school. It would also be a great choice to make with your kids to give to your spouse. If you don't want to use suckers, think of other poses to hold different types of candy.

Valentine's Day Sign Card

This is another fun card to make with your kids or another willing party. There are not step by step instructions for this project, but it is fairly self-explanatory. You can customize the size, colors, and embellishments any way you like. You can also decide whether you want to make it serious or silly. This card makes a beautiful wall or fridge hanging when the holiday is over. Consider putting it up on a bulletin board at home or work where you'll see it and smile every day.

Me + You = This Kind of Love is Intergalactic: Valentine's Day Card

This isn't actually a tutorial. It's just a funny idea. Hopefully there are some nerdier people out there reading this that get a kick out of it. You can customize this idea to fit any sci-fi show or movie that you and your significant other prefer.

Je t'aime' mini card sets

These sweet whimsical cards are perfect for many occasions besides Valentine's Day. They are also made with one of my all-time favorite color combinations: turquoise and red. The author has all of the templates and instructions that you need to make these yourself. The templates offer a couple different option for the colors. If you like this design, check out the "Je t'aime" coffee cup wrappers.

Love Boat: Valentine's Day Tote

If your kids' school classes don't make their own Valentine's Day card storage systems at school and you have to send something, this is a perfect option. It's so cute that it will stand on its own when the holiday is over. This project is very inexpensive and easy to put together. Let you kids design their own color palettes and select their own embellishments.

Teacup Valentine's Day Card

This is a perfect option for any tea lover. Who wouldn't want to drink out of that sweet mug? Don't get overwhelmed by all of the suggested materials, including embellishments and punches. You can make this as simple or complex as you like. If you are giving cards to people who don't enjoy tea, think about ways you could customize this, such as coffee or hot chocolate.

You're Sew Sweet Valentine's Day Card

This post from the Design*Sponge (which is one of my favorite craft blogs) has a number of Valentine's Day card ideas. This is one of my favorites. If you have a sewing machine with multiple stitch settings, have fun playing around with them to create this little card. If pink isn't your thing, change it up. I love the simple design of this card, but you can add more detail around the stitching if you like.

Mommy and Me Valentine's Day Card

If you have a kid who loves painting but isn't ready to make a card on her own yet, this is a great way to involve her in the process. Click to the post to see a few different variations that the author came up with for this idea. The possibilities are endless. If this project is a hit with your kid, think about how you can change the colors and details for different holidays or occasions (i.e. birthdays).

Printable Valentine's Day Cards

Are you sending cards for Valentine's Day? Consider these sweet free printables. In addition to the pictured postcard, there is also a hummingbird folded card. The author provides the templates and has instructions and links for the resources that you'll need to put these together.

Sliding-Door Candy Valentines

Don't get intimidated by the photo. This project can be completed in less than an hour. If you're making a whole bunch of them, complete each component at once (for example, cut all of the plastic molds at the same time) before putting the set together. You can customize this with any mold shape and type of candy. The "sliding door" system to keep the candy secure is really great.

Lip and Mustache Lollipops

Who isn't easily amused by fake mustaches? These Valentine's Day treats will get a smile out of any age group. This tutorial has the templates for everything. They recommend using foam paper for the lips and mustaches, which I agree would be a good choice.

Deck of Love Cards

This isn't actually a greeting card, but it came up during my "card" searches. It was way too awesome not to include. There are other variations out there for little card deck books. Valentine's Day is a perfect occasion for this project. This blog post has great instructions and detailed tips about finding or making the different components for it. It's much more time consuming to make than a greeting card is but will creating a lasting gift that your significant other can pull out any time he/she needs some inspiration or a little ego boost.

How adorable! Maybe if I have the time this year (probably unlikely) I'll make my husband a special card like one of these. Loved this hub. You're just too creative and crafty!

Thanks kittythedreamer! I tend to be way ambitious with cards and make a whole bunch at once, but it isn't too time consuming to make a single card like that. Good luck!
