5 Quick DIY Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Makeup Lovers

1) Makeup Brush Rose Bouquet
This idea came to me when my husband asked me what I wanted for Valentine's Day (2016). I really want MAC Cosmetics Makeup Brushes (mostly eye shadow brushes), but I secretly wanted roses as well. So I found a way to make the makeup brushes look like Roses with just a few simple items that you can buy pretty much anywhere. I'll link the video below!

Supplies needed:

  • 1 dozen makeup brushes
  • Tissue Paper- Red/Pink/White/Yellow or whatever color you want (I bought 3 packs and only used part of 1 for 3 or 4 brushes)
  • scissors
  • double stick tape
  • clear elastic bands

2) DIY Makeup Primer Spray
Does the makeup lover in your life want the new Smashbox Makeup Primer Spray? But can't justify spending $32 on a bottle? Well I have a great DIY video for you that will show you how to make your own for a fraction of the price!

Supplies needed:

  • Fine Mist Spray bottle (I reused a cheap body spray bottle)
  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Essential Oil (Tea Tree Oil for acne prone skin) Optional

Please note this video is not mine. I am in no way making any money off of the video. I just found it on YouTube. I will replace it with my own video as soon as I film and upload my own to my YouTube channel.

3) Makeup Brush Holder
Is the makeup lover in your life addicted to Pink? Teal? Gray? White? Neon colors? Well here's a special little DIY idea to give them a personalized Makeup Brush Holder! Head on over to your local Wal-mart or craft store and pick up the items listed below!

Supplies:

  • Glass Container
  • Spray Paint in whatever color(s) you want need
  • Stickers (Letters, shapes, etc)
  • Masking Tape

4) DIY Lighted Vanity Mirror
This one is a little more complicated, but I think I'm going to DIY this one for my "best friend" for Valentine's Day! Here's what You'll need...

Supplies:

  • Mirror with wooden Frame (flat works best)
  • Drill with Wood Drill Bit (also called a Bore Bit) the size will depend on the size of the socket for your bulbs.
  • Spray paint (to spray your sockets with to match or compliment your mirror color)
  • Tape Measure
  • Roughly 10 Porcelain Bulb Sockets (if the sockets do not come with a kit you will need the right size nipples to attach and hold the sockets to the wiring)
  • Bulbs
  • Replacement Lamp Cords x 3
  • Wire Cutters/Strippers

This is a little on the complex side if you aren't used to using power tools or don't understand basic electricity (+) and (-). Video will be posted soon!

5) Refinished Vanity
This may be a little harder to hide or to find a vanity worth refinishing. My mom found me a metal vanity with stool. It has a glass top and just a basic mirror. She purchased it at a Yard Sale like 3 years ago now for $5! My goal is to get rid of the small rust spots, repaint it and re-upholster it in a more modern fabric for the seat.

You can use an old desk. Just sand it down, either prime& paint or stain it, grab a piece of plexi-glass the same size as the top of the desk to prevent spills and marks. Change the knobs or handles on the desk drawers. Boom! DIY Vanity Restoration!

You could also do this great DIY on a Dresser and do the same basic steps I just listed above to make it beautiful. Don't forget the plexi-glass. It will keep your hard work from getting messed up as quickly.

Supplies needed:

  • Vanity/Desk/Dresser
  • Sand Paper
  • Stain/Paint/Primer
  • Paint Brushes/Rags/Sponges
  • Handles/Knobs
  • Plexi-Glass (have this cut at the hardware store where you purchase it or see if a local glass shop does plexi-glass)

Please note this video is not mine. I am in no way making any money off of the video. I just found it on YouTube. I will replace it with my own video as soon as I film and upload my own to my YouTube channel.

Why I love DIY!

I just love DIY gifts! They are special. The person who made them for you, took time out of their lives to give you something that was handmade by them. Some people aren't into the DIY thing, but those who are understand the amount of time that goes into a project and cherish that fact.

On top of that, DIY Projects can be customized to my preferences and my style. If you can't find it in a store, you can get exactly what you want/envision by doing it yourself.
