Valentines Day Quotes; Quotes About Love
A Lovely Little Thing Called Love
In contemplation of why Valentines Day stands out as a holiday of love, I have come to the conclusion that it is not alone. Every holiday -in essence- is about love. New Years is about celebrating the love of life, time, and change. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is about the love of one man whom changed the world; about loving and embracing humanity. July 4th is about the love of freedom, neighbor, and country. Christmas is about the love of God, Jesus, faith, and family. And, so on...
Valentines Day, although sometimes viewed as another ploy to further consumerism, is a day in which we do not necessarily love more, but a day in which we focus on spreading that love.
Conflicting stories circulate as to the history of Valentines Day... whether it is in honor of a heroic saint or of an ancient Roman tradition of purification, cleansing, and fertility. Regardless of what is believed, Valentines Day is presently regarded as a time to say "I Love You". Show it with flowers, candy, or by simply doing something nice for someone. Valentines Day is a day devoted to that highly-acclaimed four letter word... Love.
"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails...But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13
"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." Dr. Seuss
Love
I am not a famous poet, humanitarian, or politician. I rarely say wise and profound things, and when I do, it seems to happen when no one else is near (of course). So, I have compiled my favorite list of love quotes that other people have said at some point in history.
