Greeting Cards

You can add a touch of washi tape to virtually any greeting card design. If you find a tutorial that you love that features ribbon or a narrow decorative border, consider substituting washi tape to switch up the design. Washi tape will shine on its own or it can coordinate with other card making materials such as scrapbook paper, fabric flowers, and chipboard letters.

4 techniques using paper or washi tape

Decorative Jars

Decorative jars are perfect for storing small gift items or food gifts. They can also serve as beautiful vases for real or fake flowers. Consider different designs that you can make with tape including letters and patterns. Save recycled jars as you can so you have some on hand for these type of projects or start scouring garage sales and secondhand stores for cheap bargains on gently used jars.

Clothespin Magnets

Clothespin magnets are one of the simplest craft ideas out there. You can pick up cheap packs of clothespins and craft magnets in varying sizes at any big box craft store. Clothespins are perfectly functional on their own, but many people opt to glue a magnet to each one so they can be used on refrigerators and file cabinets. Many people also like to use their decorated clothespins for twine displays. These displays are perfect for photos and seasonal décor (i.e. letters spelling out "spring", numbers for a countdown to Christmas).

Book Page Pillow Boxes

The only supplies that you need to make these book page pillow boxes are an old book, cardboard tubes, a glue stick, and washi tape. They are a perfect gift for any mom who loves reading and has a general appreciation for books and other literary items. The boxes are so cute on their own that Mom won't even be thinking about the gift inside when she sees them, but of course they are a perfect size for chocolates or other small gifts.

Decorated Candles

Washi tape adds a decorative touch to plain homemade or store bought candles of every size and scent. If you're feeling up to the challenge, you can make your own candles or you can keep it simple with purchased candles. Dollar stores are great places to pick up inexpensive plain candles in a variety of colors and scents.

Scrapbook Page or Layout

For moms who enjoy traditional scrapbooking, a custom designed page or layout can be a great gift. Consider the colors and style that Mom will enjoy the most. Think about photos that you can include of you and your mom or other photos that she will enjoy such as photos of your kids or photos of one of her favorite vacation spots or areas of her hometown. The possibilities are endless.

Tip: Washi tape can be a fun material for decorating photo frames, too!

How to Make Washi Tape

Photo Album

There are a lot of tutorials for photo albums that can easily include washi tape. Do not feel limited to the specific ideas that you see in any tutorial. Mix up the concepts to suit Mom's tastes and add in the washi tape as it is appropriate to do so.

There are so many household objects that you can decorate with washi tape, including clip boards and large paper clips.

Gift Tags

A washi tape gift tag is a fun way to finish off any present. If you're gifting a craft item that includes washi tape, a gift tag is the perfect addition to the wrapping. If you simply want to add a little washi tape to any gift, a homemade gift tag is a great option.

Finish your Mother's Day gift off with some decorative washi tape wrapping.

Flags for Food

This isn't so much a gift idea as just another fun washi tape idea for Mother's Day. If you're making a special Mother's Day meal or food (i.e. dessert) for Mom, consider adding a few decorative touches like these washi tape food flags.

The clothes pin magnet is a cool idea. My wife will definitely love it. With the help of my daughter, I'm sure we can create something really nice for her. Great ideas my friend.

I haven't worked with washi tape much. I like all the examples that you've provided. I particularly like the washi bow at the end of your hub. I also did not know that you can make your own - as a diy junkie, I'm gonna have to try it.

alifeofdesign, I haven't worked with washi tape much either, but it looks like a lot of fun. I hope that you get a chance to try the bow soon.
