   I have never limited my children's Christmas gifts to just one present. Even when I was struggling as a single mother, both my children got several gifts under the tree. I made jammies and other clothing, dolls, games, tree ornaments, picture frames for their favorite pics, and other gifts -- these were very inexpensive for me to make. They each got one special gift I purchased (sometimes two if I had the extra money).  Great question! Thanks.

   We've never made any set rules about our gifting.  But for each kid there is never more than one gift from us under the tree.  Some years we haven't done any. 
   We let santa take the credit for the good stuff, and focus on what we're giving to other people rather than encourage them to check out their own 'haul'. 
   Santa brings either a gift to each or a family gift and stocking stuffers.  It works well for us; as long as he manages to come through!  LOL.

   No, we never limited it to one gift.  Because Christmas time and the new gifts under the tree were one of my few good childhood memories, I have tended to go overboard at Christmas with my own family.

   My parents had seven kids and not too much extra money, so each of us got only one gift. We never expected to get more than one. We knew there was no Santa Claus, which may have made a difference in our expectations. Sometimes we would also get a bigger gift for all of us to share, like a sled. That was like a bonus present!
   
   In our family, the focus was more on the birth of Christ and spending time with extended family, and giving rather than receiving gifts. We kids also had fun thinking up what we were going to give our parents and siblings and had lots of secrecy about our little fifty-cent gifts!
   
   I think I would try to follow this same pattern with my children. However, I know every family is different.

   Yes.  I know several people who have done this.  It's not always one, but maybe two or three a piece.

   I do not limit the amount of Christmas gifts I give my son. However, I limit the amount  I spend on his gifts. I try to have multiple gifts so he has more to open, just for the fun of it.  I do not spoil him at all during the year really so I like Christmas to be special for him.
