When Jesus arrived on a donkey the week before he was crucified, the Christian people waved palm leaves as he rode down the streets. Palm Sunday stages the setting for the Last Supper and satisfies prophesy regarding the messiah and Jesus' crucifixion. All Christian religions celebrate Palm Sunday as a precursor to Easter Sunday where the Risen Lord is celebrated for the ultimate salvation of souls. The gesture was used to honor as with a king or one of royalty. Certainly the Prince of Peace would qualify for both.
