What's the ideal cake for a 6 year old birthday?
We're having a birthday party for a 6 year old boy. His toy collection is a mix of all the popular television/movie characters and latest trends. There's no distinct favorite. He does however have an interest in outdoor activities. No specific sport or activity, he just enjoys being outside.
It depends on his tastes, but if he's fairly general, then something to do with baseball or a super hero would work. You could do a baseball diamond and have little baseball players on the cake as candles or just little figurines. Cars are also a favorite, you could either have a cake shaped like a car or a frosting image of a car.
The kid I baby-sit had a great birthday cake, his mom and I made him a cake in the shape of a cartoon dragon. It was fairly basic, but the frosting really sold the image.
Dinosaur Cake all the way! Why? because all little boys like dinosaurs and because it is easy to make an impressive cake.
Use cake to "build" a volcano shape. Basically leave a flat part at the base and just "glue" cake with frosting to get a mountain shape. Then frost the heck out of it to cover up your cake assembly job.
To decorate: crush oreos for "dirt", dye some coconut with green food coloring for "grass", buy some cheap plastic dinosaur toys (wash first) and decorate! Make a pre-historic 3-D scene (I also dyed some white frosting orange for lava). I usually wrap a large piece of cardboard with tin foil to put the cake on, this way you have plenty of room.
No serious cake decorating skills needed and the 3-D scene will wow the little ones.
I've been through it all. I have an 11 year old boy and 9 year old girl. Skateboard cakes, cakes in the shape of soccerballs- truth is the shape of the cake is more for you to feel good and the parents to admire. The kids wants want cake- any shape or form- with lots of icing- usually chocolate, and ice cream cake is always a big hit...
give him a green rectangle cake on which there will be nice figures of different park activities like slide, monkey bar etc with different colours. you can give a chocolate cake. but if he doesn't like salty food then give him vanilla cake.don't forget to put his figure and figure of some little girls on there. it might sound crazy.but it's true that these days, even a 6 year old boy is attracted to girls.
p.s.tell him i wished happy birthday to him.
A large cake in the shape of a '6' decorated with colorful little candies in various shapes, perhaps animal, and chocolate chips on a thick layer of icing-make it pastel shade. If you can have coloured layers even better.
When I was a little kid I got a cake shaped like a soccer ball one year and then like a baseball bat the next. Both were pretty amazing, especially at such a young age. If you dont want to spend a lot, Baskin Robbins has an amazing $10 cake that I always get for my birthday party, not because of the price, but because of the taste.
A big cake with six different colors are decorated with 6 candles.
Why don't you ask him? He probably knows the best. You can even make a cake with him, that way he will remember it forever!
i enjoy those cakes with (your) picture on them, usually they can be quite standard (you can order them at most stores) and can feel quite personalized
I would start by deciding the type of cake he enjoys the most. My kids love chocolate cakes, ice cream cakes and all cakes with candies on the top. As for the design look what others have made (were they made with cupcakes, Wilton character pans, or a cake with a topper or toys to decorate). There are many cake you can see at http://www.perfectpartyideas.com/birthday-cakes.html. I hope the birthday boy has a fantastic day!
My great-grandson's birthday party was this past weekend. His birthday cake was a sheet cake with the decoration featuring Spiderman, a character with whom he is currently fascinated.
My daughter-in-law and son make and decorate the cakes for their grandchildren, and are very talented in their presentations. For example, for one grandson who loves nature and is enthralled by snakes, the cake WAS a curled snake with its head up, tongue hanging and fangs showing! It was a very large cake and very realistic!
There are plenty of great websites for cakes, and how to make easy ones, or take the picture to a bakery if you want them to make it.
I would say for a little boy, get a cake Shaped like the Blues clues dog, hes very popular with little girls and boys:)
We rented a 16' x 18' bounce house with a slide for $145/2 hours visit http://allinfun.biz . Many advantages - keeps the kids busy; provides a natural, dynamic background for adults to congregate around and talk; loads of photo ops, etc.

Do you like making cake? Or is it more like you want to make cakes. My friend and I started to make cakes instead of buying presents for birthdays. We had so much fun making them. The best kind we made was a 3 foot cake that looked like a sports stadium! Here's a question: What kind of cakes have...
