By far, the best gift that I received was having my grown children and grandchildren gather round on Christmas eve. for a wonderful dinner.

My best christmas gifts are two fold. The first is not on christmas day, but early in December when I have my Christams weekend with daughter and the rest of the Cape Cod Family. It was so cold this year that we went home and I spent the afternoon chatting with the girls and ordering their gifts on line to be delivered. Some arrived without tags, which made the wait for Christmas very speculative. The highlight of the weekend is our annual "Hat Dinner". We go to this wonderful Italian restaurant and they wince when they see us coming. We have animated hats now that sing and dance. we cause a bit of a stir, We laugh a lot and exhchange hats periodically, as some are quite heavy witrh the batteries and the lights. One little girl was transfixed for her entire dinner. People come up and say how we made their day, Then there was the family that asked to be moved, didn't feel too bad though, as it was the third move they had made. They refused to have a good time which is very sad. The group has grown over the years from 5 to 9. That is twice as many hats and twice as much noise. Every year we give away retiring hats. This year that little girl got one and the waitresses two more. We are almost out of inanmimate hats so will soon be giving away singing ones. We have to make room each year for the cutting edge hats of the moment.
The second part of my best gifts is that I get to spend the whole weekend with my son. With just the two of us, things are quieter, but carry just as much love and joy. We get to open gifts together and have Christmas dinner , beef wellington and all the fixings. A bonus is that he also came up last weekend for some shooting practice and a lovely dinner out.
I also have my two lovable dogs to be counted as Christmas blessings. They have been smelling their stockings all week and were so happy today to get treats from them.
My daughter has to have a hysterectomy in January but that should be without complication and a health improvement. The rest of us are healthy, just getting older and better. Now if all that isn't truly being blessed, I don't know what is.
I wish for all of you the same quality in Year end blessing.

Hmm. I like getting gifts, especially shiny things. But Christmas has taken on special meaning for us. Not just talking about the stall and manger. I'm talking about family and friends. We keep Christmas 'gift' giving down to minimal cost. So it's all about the thought that counts.
