Christmas Stocking Patterns

Patterns for Christmas Stockings

Finding a good Christmas stocking pattern isn't that hard to do, and depending on the commitment you have to a project, there's a Christmas stocking pattern out there for everybody, whether it's for knitting, crochet, cross stitch, sewing or needlepoint you're wanting to work with.

One great aspect of Christmas stocking patterns is you can find a number of them for free, although there are a lot of them out there you can purchase as well, with some being very detailed for those looking for a challenge.

As you know, each type of medium you choose to make a Christmas stocking ends up with a different type of look, and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

For example, if you want some very high quality images, normally you would choose needlepoint and cross stitch as way to achieve that. Even so, there are exceptions to every rule, and depending on the pattern your find or choose, you can get some great looking Christmas stockings using any type of medium you choose or prefer to use.

Crocheted Stocking Pattern

Red and white always work for a Christmas stocking pattern, and those traditional Christmas colors look good with this crocheted Christmas stocking. Many people who love to work with projects like these look for simple patterns they can finish quickly, but which still look great. I think this one has all of that going for it.

Creative Christmas Stocking Pattern

The Santa stocking pattern below is full of all sorts of creative ideas, and the circles at the bottom of the sleigh, the buttons, along with various patterns scattered throughout the stocking pattern give the impression of being a quilt with all the pieces having a different look.

Quilt Christmas Stocking

For those brave souls who love to quilt, making a quilt Christmas stocking is a lot of fun, as you can see from the photo below.

This one even has more of a quilt and piece look that the stocking above. Great stocking design.

Unusual Santa Stocking Pattern

This is a very unusual Santa Christmas stocking, and while not seemingly as nice looking as the others, really is an interesting design. It's the unique feel of the stocking I like, and it seems to hearken back to days of yore. It's difficult to see the reindeer below Santa's feet because of the brown background, which was fascinating to me because of the way it was worked in with the lighter colors to highlight it. And those smaller snowflakes give the hint of the time of year and wonderful holiday season. I like this one.

Needlepoint Christmas Stocking Patterns

Needlepoint can offer the opportunity to create very detailed and delightful Christmas stocking patterns, and the ones shown below are an inspiration and reason behind why so many people enjoy creating them by themselves, or buying them for their quality. Every one of them has tremendous color and great patterns.

My favorite here is the middle one with the wise men. Probably because of the theme and the vibrant colors.

From the above photos you can see why it's so fun and compelling to find great Christmas stocking patterns, no matter what medium you prefer to work with or buy a Christmas stocking made out of.

There's just something about these interesting patterns that become one of the more important things people love to pass down to their heirs through the generations. It's the wonderful memories they create that make them such a delight to work with and own.
