When dressing up with your spouse or friend, there really are many couples costumes that you can consider besides the basic ball and chain that have been played out over the years, even though there are a few new ones to that effect (as seen below). It's still a good idea to choose a Halloween costume that will look good on its own, in case you and your partner get separated or at the last minute have a fight and one or the other refuses to go to the party.
Have fun with your costume. Be original and creative. You'll find that not as many people go in couples costumes as they used to, but at the same time there's not much that hasn't been done from Fred and Wilma Filntstone to Ricky and Luci to even the stoned out hippies. It's been done, so being 100% original isn't the way to think. It's a start, but as long as your costume is creative, and you add your own personal spice to it, you're going to be unique, which means don't take your costume out of the bag and wear it as is. Add a little something different to make it your own.

You don't even have to go as a Barbie and Ken or Batman and Robin pair. You and your partner can just dress up as the same thing but in different costumes. If you're going in a man/woman pair, you can easily dress up as a dark vampire and a sexy vampiress and still be a couple costume.
Ball and Chain Costumes
Whether you're married, in a serious relationship, or just a couple of friends, you can pull this one off. There are sets that allow the man to be the ball and chain that the other must carry around, or Halloween sets that make the woman the ball and chain. Either way, the ole ball and chain costume is a classic.
There's now the lock and key that you could consider, which is pretty funny for couples to consider, as well as t he plug and socket.
These costumes are cute and funny for adults to wear to parties together. These costumes are truly couples costumes, and aren't nearly as good if you arrive solo. If you showed up at a party as just the ball and chain or just the key to the lock, you're not going to have nearly the same effect or cause the same reaction as if you had your partner with you.
