Happy Mother's Day

Updated on August 29, 2013

Mother’s Day is a special celebration in many parts of the world as a day to honor mothers and motherhood.  Its history can be traced back to ancient festivals.  At present, we commonly celebrate it every second Sunday of May; however, it can vary in dates for other countries.  There is also a spelling concern on the specific location of the apostrophe for this word.  In the English language, the singular possessive Mother’s Day is the preferred spelling for each family to honor their mother.  Although, the Mothers’ Day in a plural possessive format may also be acceptable; this is to signify the commemoration of all mothers in the world.  But whatever the history, dates or spelling that we acknowledge, the most important thing is that we must be thankful to our mothers for everything she has done for us.

I want to share with you two poems for my mom and for all mothers throughout the world.  This is a special tribute to motherhood.

THANK YOU MOM

Mom, it may have never been

That I’ve said, “I love you”;

But this is a special day

To tell you how much I really do.

I am so blessed to have you

As my mother and confidante, too;

You were there for me

When I needed you most;

You’ve taught me to survive

All the challenges in life;

You’ve prayed for me

Through good times and bad,

And taught me to hold on

For strength and faith from above

Thank you for taking care of me

When I was growing up;

Thank you for holding on to me

When I was about to fall;

Thank you for being there for me

When I was in trouble;

Thank you for the encouraging words

That made me a better person in this world;

Thank you for loving me

Even those times I’m not worth of it,

Though that made me feels special;

But most of all –

Thank you for all your sacrifices,

Just for me to have a good life

I love you, Mom

Happy Mother’s Day!

ONLY A MOTHER CAN DO

Motherhood is a vocation

A calling from above

To work and fulfill God’s mission

To show His grace and love

Only a mother can do.

Nine months of agony to delivery

A special gift to the family;

A new life of inspiration

To raise with Christ in perfection

Only a mother can do.

The new hope of beauty

Laid rest in her arms with frailty;

But this bundle of joy

Makes her heart smile with glory

Only a mother can do.

Then twelve years of the journey

With sleepless hours come nightly

Her throbbing body felt like beaten;

Though it can easily be forgotten

As she listens to your laughter

When you play and learn harder

Only a mother can do.

Giving words of wisdom to live by

To channel you in the right direction;

Prodding your memory without a sigh

For encouragement and motivation;

Making some sacrifices and preparation

Just to build a solid foundation

Only a mother can do.

Came the teen years of destitution

The beginning of a new chapter in life;

A rugged road full of temptation

It’s now the reality to face grief and strife;

As she let go of you in good transition

While she stood beside you as a guide

Only a mother can do.

As you surpass the world of sinfulness

And enters the humanity of adulthood;

The solid ground now built on you

With commitment and faithfulness;

It’s time that she passed on her mission

Her life of complete dedication

The vocation that only a mother can do;

As she had prepared you to do so

And you carry it when you walk on . . .

In quest of your journey in life.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all Moms!

Thoughts to Ponder On:

A mother’s faith can stand the overflowing rivers and her unconditional love for her children can climb the highest mountain.  Children can turn their back from their mothers but no mother can hold back from their children.  Their love is pure and everlasting no matter what happens.

Reflection:

Proverbs 31: 25 to 31 (New International Version)

“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her;

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
