4 Foreign Films that are Perfect for Valentine's Day

You want to snuggle and cuddle on the couch to end or spend Valentine's Day watching a good DVD, why not watch a foreign film. If you're a guy reading this, you know she's only going to suggest that girly girly, pinky, fluffy stuff anyway. So why not go for something different.

These films aren't just perfect for Valentine's but for a romantic staying in sofa, cuddling date.

These films are especially good because they allow both halves of the couple to enjoy the film. It's not that one sided girly rom com, romance type film; full of kissy kissy, boy meets girl, they like each other, break up then get together again type of nonsense.

If you're a lady reading this, you know he's only watching it just because or in hope he gets some after.

That's no fun is it?! Doing something just because you feel obligated to. You want him there with you because he not only wants to be, but knows he'll have fun sat there next to you.

Romantic foreign films are thought provoking, visually appealing and intelligent. Not that typical romance films aren't but some lack the 'smart' charm don't they. You know you've had your intelligence insulted by a few.

These are foreign films, that are worth the hassle of reading subtitles. They explore love and romance in different ways, some are out of the box, in the box but intelligently so or love with some action.

Amelie Poulain
Amelie Poulain

Amelie

Starring: Audrey Tautou

French titleLe Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, which means The Fabulous Life of Amelie Poulain. Trust me her life is crazily fabulous.

The film is set in Paris and is about the life of Amelie, an introvert, who decided to change or inject change in the lives of those around her; in an attempt to free herself from her own isolation.

Audre Tautou is absolutely genius in this and perfect for the role. It will make you laugh and the romantic moments are sweet but not sickly.

It is a romantic comedy, that's stylish and elegantly made. It's witty and very pleasing to the eye. One that everyone would enjoy.

It's a must see for me!

Love Me If You Dare

Starring: Marion Coutillard & Guillame Canet.

French Title: Jeux d'enfants meaning Children's Game.

It involves a romantic life long game of Truth or Dare without the Truth bit and the trading of a tin carousel whenever the dare is completed.

It begins with the stars as children, then skips forward ten years, to when they lead separate lives and are about to reunite again. When they do, the rest of film chronicles the antics they get up to fro their reunion.

Imagery use dominates the film from fuzzy, with bright colours, sepia tint, darker sharp colours.

It's another compelling love story from the French, that is as funny as it is heart- warming, though provoking and charming. Oh the things we do for love!

Paris Je'Taime

Starring: Various Actors, I'll just put a couple down; Elijah Wood and Natalie Portman

Title Meaning: Paris, I Love You

It's a 2 hour film, made up of little segments of peopel falling in love or discovering love around Paris. It is especially noted for the diverse and equally brilliant directors. Including Gurinder Chadha, Gerard Depardieu, Sylvain Chomet, Alfonso Cuarón, Wes Craven, Joel and Ethan Coen.

It's romance feast that is faaar from cheesy. Definite crowd pleaser. Well worth the watch, especially the random, RANDOM scene...watch and you'll know the one I mean.

It's a delicious film, that covers the highs and lows of all kinds of relationships.

Yes I know what you're thinking, another French film...

well no one know lurve like the French and where to experience love than in Paris.

House of Flying Daggers

Starring: Zhang Ziyi

Chinese Title: Shí Miàn Mái Fú.

This is an action romance film directed by Zhang Yimou. It is similar to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but focuses on love as oppose to martial arts.

The use of strong colours is again a signature of Zhang Yimou's signature us of colours is a feature that make this film a visual feast. It is one of my favourites.

This is a love story that transcends most love films. It's insanely attractive and must be watched. It's about a soldier's plan to capture a blind dancer, who they suspect is the daughter of a rebel leader.

I've not met anyone who hasn't enjoyed it.

One for the boys too with action and fighting scenes, carefully and beautifully crafted.

Breath Taking, Heart Stopping...Beautiful. Please watch!

I don't think there's a woman alive who does not love Amelie! all the girls I've dated or known sure do. I have only seen that one and House Of Flying Daggers from your list. I will have to put the other two to test this weekend if I get the chance.

Thanks for the tips, Sa Toya.
