Dear President Washington,

Please help us! The Constitution is hanging in tatters, and the country you and others fought for so long ago is dying a slow death.

It has been over 200 years since you and your comrades in arms fought against the oppression of England and her tyranny. Now, we as Americans face many of the same challenges, but not from foreign shores but from within.

But before I share all the bad news, I want to let you know of all the progress we have made since you have left this earth. We abolished slavery, all children attend public schools and have access to an education, regardless of race creed or color, all Legal United States Citizens 18 years and older have the power of the vote and we have elected our first African American President.

The technology of today is so advanced that with a single click on a computer keyboard you are connected with the whole world, you can travel from VA to England in a day via a plane. Yet with all these advances we, I am afraid to say, have stumbled way from the basics, the spirit of America.

In fact, Mr. President the democracy you and others risked life, family, and property for is succumbing to a steady march towards socialism. In a socialist society, the Government's ultimate goal is to control all aspects of human life. Health care, news, education, and businesses are all under the control of a central political body. Much like the Monarchy of England that you fought against.

In this type of society, there is no vote, freedom of speech, or freedom of religion. In other words if the government of such a country does not feel that it is in the "best interest"of the masses it does not happen. This system, much like the English Monarchy, of your time sat aloof and above the masses. This approach, as you found out, does not allow for the voices of the people to be heard or for positive changes to occur. Such governments, much like the rule of King George III, fear nothing or no one as all of society's basic rights are suppressed. The society is completely dependent upon their (the government's) benevolence, and fear their wrath.  Much like the relationship between a parent and child.

We as a society, I am afraid, are starting down this path.  Slowly, the government of the United States, in the quest for a larger government and more control over the populace ,are dismantling the Constitution. The very foundation of this country.  As, I receive and research these issues of our rights disappearing I will write further letters to you.  With these letters, I hope that others that happen to read them will see and understand the dire situation we are in and will exercise their rights in an educated and meaningful way.

Until next time.

Lindy---Socialism and Capitalism are both forms of government that can and has turned into fascism or communism---history validates this. Political leaders become corrupt, greedy and self-serving. It is our job, as citizens, to benchmark the quality of work our politicians do. If they fall below the mark, we should be voting them out of office. Instead, we allow them to become career politicians, complacent and self-serving.

Look how the Patriot Act has been used against our own citizens in the name of “it’s for our protection”. Consider how our civil and constitutional rights have been violated under the past administration. While many of us have lost jobs, our Senate voted themselves a $4,700.00 wage increase this year. By the way, that did include both parties but several of the Socialist group voted Nay. They then put forth a bill to stop the yearly “let’s give myself a raise” vote!

There is good and bad in both parties…The trick is to get them to listen to or voices and work together for the good of “we the people.”

Thanks for the comment Nancy. That is the key as American Citizens we need to vote in an educated manner and not listen to all the partisan crap that is out there. In my opinion we as voters need to vote out the majority of our elected officials and start from scratch and get our priorities straight.
