The English Lake District with photographs in March; early spring time.

Ambleside, Lake District.

Your experience of England's Lake District will vary according to the time of year you pick to visit it. Spring and Autumn are less busy times and your stay will cost less. The English Lakes can not promise you a wonderful sunny day ever day as some holidays can. But what you will experience in the way of beautiful scenery and uniqueness will mean your visit there will be worthwhile.

The beauty of the English Lake District has provided inspiration for poets and artists and it is easy to see why. The area was well loved by English poets and the daffodils that provided inspiration for the poem were seen there by William Wordsworth....

A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

In the summer months the Lake District will be busy with tourists. If you are driving there it may sometimes be better for yourself and for the Lake District if you take a bus or a ferry boat to reach your daily destinations. There are plenty of car parks but in the peak summer season these are very busy. Do not be put off by this; once you get to your destination for the day you will find impressive and beautiful landscapes. The colour of the water, trees the views make it a very worthwhile place to visit for walkers and photographers. If you find the right spot you really can see for miles and miles.

Among the famous authors who have lived in the lake District are William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. You can visit places such as Dove Cottage in Grasmere which was once the home of William Wordsworth. While in Grasmere do not miss visiting the quaint Grasmere Gingerbread Shop where they sell what I believe to be the best tasting gingerbread wrapped in traditional blue and white wrappers which is made to a secret recipe. Also in The Lake District is a visitors attraction featuring Beatrix Potter's stories and characters.

Keswick has a pencil museum where children love having their photo taken next to the a giant pencil (the world's largest pencil) and artists workshops are run at the museum/factory.

My photographs were taken very early in the year (March) before the spring weather had arrived, the Lake District is not always as overcast as my pictures make it look.
