How Much Do Braces Cost?
78What Determines the Prices of Braces
Finding out how much braces cost on the internet is near impossible. A lot of factors determine the cost of braces. The amount of correction that will be needed, the type of braces that will be used and the amount of time that they will be worn all contribute to how much the braces will cost.
To give an amount is like saying how much a house cost. It depends on a lot of items and one of which is geological. The same braces scenario can be two different amounts in different parts of the country or the world.
- Time is another factor. The more visits that are going to be required will increase the cost of braces.
- Alignment circumstances goes along with time. The amount of time and effort that the dentist will need to put in will increase the price. Also there may be other appliances that may be required before or after your braces to help manipulate your teeth.
- Dentist vs. Orthodontist. Having a specialist work on your alignment can be another added cost. A dentist may be cheaper than an orthodontist
- Type of braces. Depending on if you want the traditional stainless steel or a more concealed looking braces can be a instance that can alter the price.
Rough Estimated Cost
This all being said the rough estimates and I mean rough are as follows:
- Traditional braces (stainless steel) $1800.00-$7600.00
- Lingual or Ceramic braces -an additional $500.00-2000.00
- Invisible Braces (Invisalign) $3500.00-$5000.00
The choice of braces may not be up to you and should be discussed with your dentist. Your alignment problems will defiantly help determine if you will be able to wear a non-traditional type of braces.
Insurance Coverage
Now that we’ve addressed the cost of braces, there are some ways to help lower that cost.
The first is of course insurance. However, not all insurance companies pay or even help with the cost of braces. The best way to find out is to talk to the company themselves. Find out exactly how much they will pay, if any, and what is there cap (the max amount they will pay toward braces.
If your standard heath insurance policy does not cover braces or not enough to help, you may want to seek out additional dental insurance. There are many companies that offer braces coverage. The best way to find a good company is to talk to your dentist office. Ask them what companies other patients have used that pay well. Then call the companies for yourself and get all the details. Find out your insurance expense, how much they will pay toward braces and what the cap amount is on the procedure.
Cafeteria Plan
Another option to save money on braces is a Cafeteria plan. Many employers offer a saving plan that deducts money from your paycheck and puts these funds into an account for you. The funds put in this account are pre-tax saving you up to 25%. The program will in most cases cover braces. You submit your receipts to your predestinated personal and then you will be issued a reimbursement check.
Things to remember when using an Cafeteria plan.
- Find out if braces are a qualify reimbursement procedure.
- Keep your receipts. Most companies allow you to submit on a ongoing basis. This can help keep you from accidentally loosing your receipts.
- Only deposit a years worth of expenses into the savings plan. The plan is an annual program. Any money not used in that period is lost. If you are going to pay out the braces to your dentist then only deposit the amount you will be paying out for that year. You can then sign up for the program again if you are going to have more expenses in the following years.
The best way to find out the cost of braces and anything to that can help reduce the price is to talk to your dentist.

I hate to use the term, but it sounds like braces are an investment for the future as much as a kids college fund. back in the day it took my mother eight years to pay off my sister's braces. The cost of raising children seems to go up constantly. Maybe it is fortunate for me that i don't have any myself.
