Mice Eat Through Spark Plug Wires
There are many ways to combat this problem of mice eating through your spark plug wires. I am going to tell you what you should do. You need to take care of the problem because if you are in a rural area you need your car. And there are health concerns of coming into contact with mice.
If I were you I would not use mouse poison. The mouse may find a hole to die in where you cannot get him out. That could be unpleasant. The odors could be a problem. So the solution of choice, for you guys, is a mouse trap. You need to find a good mouse trap. You can put cheese or peanut butter on the mouse trap.
You also need to buy new wires. Don't be taping those chewed wires up because you could damage your car. In the old days you could tape up the wires with electrical tape. With the smaller engines and computers on the cars now that may not be such a good idea. If you have to tape them some people say just to do so until you get to an auto parts store. I don't recommend it.
Keeping the little buggers out. (The humor section)
If you want to keep the little buggers out, you need to get good weatherstripping on your garage, or you need to get a cat. Cats are great mousers.
Some people think that rubbing silicon paste on the spark plug wires will keep the mice away but I have never tried that. There is an electronic pest control device called Rid-x. You can kill bugs and mice with it, but you won't want to own a hamster or a gerbel.
However some people say they work and others say they don't, so you are looking at just over 50 bucks to try it. On the other hand you won't have to buy it cat food!
If all is failing, you may have to seek professional help. No I don't mean psychological help. Get a pest control guy to come out and poke around to see the source of your mouse problem. Of course the pest control guy is not going to tell you that the electronic device works. And the electronic device salesman is not going to tell you that it only works sometimes.
Now that I have thoroughly confused all of you please be about your business. I have raccoons to deal with!

What Mouse Problems Have You Solved and How?
Mice of you to stop by. Yes and I intend to get the Coyote dried urine to keep the raccoons away.
Bgamall, thanks for answering my hub request. We also tried fox urine. Didn't seem to make a bit of difference. I'm going to write a hub about my experience and what we tried and where we are today. This is a recent event for us. I'm on my third replacement set of sparkplug wires on my daily driver.
When I store my cars over winter, I use a bar of Original scent Irish Spring soap. I cut it up and put blocks in the trunk, engine and a few in the interior. Must work because I haven't had a mouse problem since. Smells better than the mothballs I used 1 year!
Mice suggestions from all of you for getting rid of the little buggers!
I live in a rural area and many here have this problem-- some of the solutions I have heard of are in my' Mice in your Motor" hub. The subject has been my best hub for Amazon sales because of people buying the associaed rodent repellent products. Add an Amazon capsule and you may get some income.
What an excellent idea. I will move the capsule up! Thanks for stopping by Rochelle.

Nice Hub...or was it a mice Hub...Anyway, I had a problem with pack rats getting into my Jeep's engine compartment, nesting and eating the wires and insulation.
Living in Arizona, we have a lot of wildlife around here. Not wanting to hurt or kill any of the other creatures that frequent our back yard ( I park the Jeep under an outdoor awning ) I asked my sourdough neighbor for help.
This guy used to trap beaver and live off the land somewhere in Canada. He said he had the same problem when he would leave his truck for months on end when he went trapping. He found that pack rats ( and any rodent ) would not go near an area sprayed by a bob cat, cougar, or any cat marking its territory. He suggested I spread some of the clumped cat litter ( urine only ) under my Jeep. Bingo !! It worked like a charm...no pack rats, no nests, no damage to my Jeep. And best of all, no harm to the native creatures...even pack rats have to live..
