In continuation of myefforts to provide historic details to readers, here I'm back again to try to provide some details on what happened on different days of June, in history. Some of these incidents are modern and some are of past centuries.
1 june
1916-Bal Gangadhar Tilak.(whom Gandhi respected as his guide in Indian freedom struggle) pronouncee his famous statement-"swaraj(independence) is my birthright and Iwil have it".This became the hymn for other freedom fighters later.
1930-First Deluxe train started its journey between Mumbai and Pune
1945-'Indian Institute of Science'(popularly known as 'Tata Institute'-started functioning at Bangalore.
2 june
1862-Alexander GRaham bell invents telephone.
3 June
1915-Rabindranath Tagore was conferred with the honourable tittle of knighthood by the British empire(He later returned it in 1919 in protest against Jallianwala Bagh massacre)
1916Indian First women's University was established.
1992-Global Conference held at Rio-de-Janeiro to celebrate 'Global Day'
4 June
**'International Day of Innocent Children who are victims of aggression'
2000-On this day Russia and U.S,.A reached to an agreement to destroy Pleutonium used to produce nuclear weapons
5 June
** 'International Environment Day'
6-June
1674- Chatrapathi Shivaji ,Founder of Maratha ruler's dynasty in India in middle-age,Was crowned in Raigarh fort(Maharashtra) and owned the tittle 'Chatrapathi'.The main Railway station in Mumbai now is named after him..Because of his bravery, Hinduism was saved from aggression to a great extent.
1971-Soviet Russia lauched the rocket 'SOYEZ-II' into space.
7-June
1979-India launched its second satellite 'Bhaskar' into space. It was a successful venture.(Bhaskar -means SUN.It is also the name of a famous Indian mathematecian of 7th century)
**1989- Five year old Indian boySheetasl Pandya covers a distance of 1.600 K.Ms on roller skates.
8 June
1936-India's Civil Radio Network was renamed -"All India Radio'.
1981-Prakash Padukone won International Badminton Tournament.(His daughter Deepika Padukone is now a famous star in demand.
9-June
1964-Lal Bahdur Shastri, the honest man, becomes the second prime minister of India
1781-Birth of Scientist- George Stephenson
1870-Death of novelist,Charles Dickens
10-June
**International Eye Donation Day.
!955-Birth of Prakash Padukone,renowned Badminton player.
11-June
1950- Death of Sane Guruji, a freedom fighter and social worker from India.
1963- Successful implantation of of human lung by Dr. James Hardy
476 AD.-Birth of ancient Indian mathemetician-Aryabhata
1993-India successfully tests the missile 'Prithvi' ,for the 11th time.(now it is still more improved and re-tested many times)
1969-Death of famous Marathi poet,novelist,filmdirector Prahlad KeshavAtre

Dear Chef,
I appreciate your enthusiasm.It is point in history that all countries which suffer forign rule,struggle to come out of that an any cost. Natural-what could be dearer than free existance?In our ancient epic -Ramayana , Rama tells his brother Lakshmana-'Nothing can equal mother and motherland;not even the heaven'.
India suffered bitter forign rule and attacks than America. America had no developed civilization when British occupied it. But India had well developed civilization,culture,science. technology, mathematics, medicine system, everything.With attacks by forigners right from 10th century,we lost much of those.British rule forced us to change our life style itself.That is more harmful.
Yes, I know that long ago India had science and philosophy that was the envy of the world. Today there are some who are surprised that there are so many Indian scientists and doctors! They don't know that this is an ancient tradition in India!
Too bad the British, who were so kind to some, were so cruel to people in India. But that is a lesson I hope my country remembers - be kind to everyone!

I'va had the opinion for a long time that India and the United States have a lot of things in common, even while we also have many things that are different. I am seeing in your series that the people of India yearn for freedom and self-expression a lot more than I would have been led to believe if I just read the superficial histories.
I admire the advances India is making as a society, and many of the struggles seem parallel to those we have had to make here in the U.S. - civil rights, equal rights for women, keeping a close eye on government, coping with a growing economy and simply making ends meet within the family.
Thank you for showing us yet another side of a huge and important nation, the world's largest Democracy, as some have called India.
