Grand sight of Mysore palace-illuminated during Dasara festival

one of the best

The main palace at Mysore city is one of the best in the world. This palace is called 'Amba vilas palace'. But locals usually do not call it fully by this name but they tell full name of other palces when they mean it.

Construction of this palce was was necessitated in 1887 whaen the old, small wooden-built palace was burnt by accidental fire. while constructing it , the Wodeyar kings of Mysore knigdom reffered to the architectural plans of different palaces in the world and finally got created this plan, by assembling good features of all references.Hence it combines the best features of both Indian and certain western building designs.

It is a famous tourist spot in India

ELEGENT LOOK

Mysore palace is really majestic-with broad, elevated Durbar hall in front,Grand arches, grand front elevation, and medium sized domes on the top.Palace is beautifully painted in a befitting manner allover. The flooring in the Durbar –hall is so fine .The pillers are like elephant’s legs-dwarf and stout.

INSIDE THE PALACE

Inside, the palace has some big halls and number of rooms. One hall is meant for cabinet meting and secretarial talks, and meeting the foreign dignitaries. Another open hall, just behind the public durbar hall is meant for marriages and such other functions

MYSORE KINGS -HISTORY

Kings who ruled mysore state belonged to WODEYAR dynasty. This kingdom was started in 15th century .Originally they were subordinates to Vijayanagar rulers. But, with the destruction of that kingdom, in southern Karnataka,Mysore royal state flourished as strong independent state.

The rulers of Mysore were pro-people. They took many steps-like, establishing a people representative council, implemented reservations for down-trodden communities, etc. They patronized arts, music, literature, and sports like boxing.

In the present palace, lived and ruled Famous KRishnaraja wodeyar-the fourth, and Jayachamaraja wodeyar. When India became independent in 1947, the state of Mysore got merged in it in January 1948.Then, the rulership was gone.

PRESENT POSITION

PRESENTLY, THE PALACE IS UNDER THE JOINT SUPERVISION OF Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wodeyer,Son of the the last ruler-Jayachamaraja Wodeyer, and certain government representatives.

Large part of the palce is now open for visiters to see.

Infront of the palace is the large lawn, and in the premises, there are eight temples.

Now the DAssara festival has started from 19thNov.Visiters from all over the world are pouring in.Many cultural and sports events are planned to celebrate it in a grand manner.
