Travertine tiles are an extremely versatile product. You also need to be cautious of the types of cleaning products that you use because even Travertine that has been sealed or is polished can still be etched or the finished dulled depending on the type of cleaning product used. It is very delicate when it comes to abrasive or acidic cleaners or materials that can and will etch the tile or dull the finish.

Now that you know some of the negatives and have decided that these are things that you can live with you need to find a location in which to purchase your product and decide who will be installing it. If you have a handy man or contractor that you are already working with this will be can be easily accomplished as they typically have a materials provider that they work closely with and will be able to guide you to that location and or installer. That being said with the advent of the home project superstores this has been made even easier and access to any and all products is available for everyone including the do-it-yourself individuals or those that choose not to use a contractor. These locations not only provide the materials and tools needed to complete the project but can usually provide you with an installer. If you are thinking about doing this project yourself laying or installing tile is not something that I would suggest for a novice do-it-yourselfer. It does require a variety of skills and the ability to use a variety of tools. Although a little more difficult than some projects it is not impossible for the weekend warrior to accomplish. Be prepared however, to purchase or rent a few tools that are specific to completing this type of work. You can also find tiles in specialty flooring shops that specialize in nothing but flooring products or that specializes in tile. Those that specialize in tile will have more just the basics, so if you are looking for something truly unique this would be the best place to look. Many of these flooring specialty stores will also be able to help with installation as well.
