I am planting a garden again this year (a small one) and have taken to riding my wife's bicycle even though I haven't ridden a bicycle in many years. I have to admit, riding a bicycle in traffic causes me no small amount of consternation. I have also taken up canning and am actually looking forward to canning some of the produce from the garden this fall.

We are about to lose our home to foreclosure, but in spite of that, I have planted a small garden.  I guess the new owners will reap the benefit, but that's OK as well.  I just hope they don't plow it under and install a 500,000 BTU gas BBQ.

Also, I am proud of my son & daughter - they both ride bikes and don't own cars.  But I, too, worry about them in traffic!

Sorry to hear that, Jeff. I hope things work out for you and your family. You certainly seem to have a bright attitude in spite of your difficulties. It sounds like you have a lot to be proud of in your children. Well, I guess all we can do is keep praying. It also happens to be the best thing we can do. A few years ago the county where we lived filed an eviction lawsuit against me and my family. We had less than a week to go before the sheriff came to move us out. The Lord saw us through that period of t

Jeff, I was about to say (before this fool computer's cursor decided to go its own way) that the Lord saw us through that trial and I'm sure He will do the same for you. God bless.

Thanks, Jerry - we are praying, and also praying for our friends Lisa & Mike whose premie baby Liam has major heart & lung problems, so our problems seem minor compared to theirs. The doctors need to remove a non-functioning portion of little Liam's left lung so his heart can grow and continue to beat.

There is always a greater reason to pray for others than to wish it for yourself, but I gladly accept all prayers for our situation as well. Thanks!

Wow! No matter how bad things get, there is always someone who is struggling with something worse. But all things are possible with God. I will also remember little Liam and his family to God.

Thank you for your prayers for Liam, and the updated report today is that he is indeed strong enough for surgery, and that his parents are feeling hopeful. Thanks to everyone who is praying for his health.

He is a premie and as such is very tiny. He looks so frail, but I know his mom & dad and they are strong people, good people, so I hope they are blessed by God and by prayers.

What am I doing?

I've switched over to a 90% raw diet. Never thought I'd do that. Mostly just fruits and veg. Lots of them. No raw meat. Can't go that far. Sounds crazy but it saves me money and gets off excess pounds too, my body gets the nutrients it needs and I don't need as much sleep. At least it's a start at conserving energy. Less cooking.

This energy crisis calling on every resource within ourselves that we can muster up and more. And in the end its still not enough. God definitely wants us dependent on Him and nothing else. And that's as it should be.

Our unleaded gas price today is $4.79 in Kenai, Alaska. Double plus up in Barrow. You should see the gas guzzlers lined up for sale on the side of the road. Don't ever remember seeing so many. Folks are ditching these cars and trucks almost without a thought. Bikes are all over the place. Tried to ride myself but I've got an old military injury that says otherwise.

Good job, Babbyii. We are drinking more fruit and vegetable juice ourselves (we bought a juicer) but not because of the "energy crisis" but because of some health issues. Also, my wife rides her bike to work and we are looking for a bike for myself. Been years since I rode one for any length of time at all but I guess we'll test the old saying, "Once you learn how to ride a bike, you never forget."

cycling is great - good exercise, good fun, saves money, and gives that great sense of freedom.

Yeah, I agree, LondonGirl. I just don't do it much because of traffic. I should learn to cope with it though. Thanks for the post and reading these hubpages!
