A medical assistant is a very important person in a physician’s office. They are trusted to keep all of the medical documents safe and to look after their well being. It will depend on the office size before you can actually determine how much work you will be doing as a medical assistant and what type of work you will given. Usually though a smaller office will allow a medical student to get more hands on work, while in a larger office you will just being doing what the bare minimum of what your job requires of you.

You have to look at what you want to do before you decide to work in a smaller city or a town. Medical assistants are in high demand so usually you will have no problem trying to find a job. This means that you are given a bit of a choice where you work. If you prefer smaller towns or larger cities you will more than likely be able to choose where you will be working.

The whole health industry is very important, so this type of job is taken very seriously. You will be spending most of your day filing patient records, arranging for hospital admissions and filling out many other kinds of legal and insurance forms. You are essentially responsible for the well being of the office and making sure that everything runs smoothly and correctly.

If you are interested in perusing a career in the medical field for being a medical assistant you will need strong organizational skills as these will be essential for getting the job done well.

You will also need good social and communication skills as you will often be working with patients and scheduling appointments. You will need to know how to act under extreme amounts of pressure and other social situations. You will be the link in-between the medical personnel and the patient requesting medical assistance.

You will most likely also need to take a 1 or 2 year program culminating in a certificate or associate’s degree. Although you don’t really need formal training it is strongly required as you will learn many skills that will help you out in your career as a medical assistant. If you are able to, any type of formal schooling will work for you very well for you.

Volunteering and many other records of community involvement will also be very important. Remember, good social and people skills are in favor in this career choice.

Salary information

The typical salary for a medical assistant is somewhere around $20,000 - $40,000 per year. As you get more experienced and you work longer, you can expect your salary and pay to increase. These numbers are not always set in stone but they are a basic guideline to how much you will be getting paid if you are taking part in this career choice.
