Premenstrual syndrome is genrally characteristic of mood swings.

- retention of sodium and water by the kidneys
- hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
how to overcome PMS?
- BE AWARE
- it is not abnormal to have a few of these symptoms
- lifestyle changes
- minimise stress on those days
- regular exercise
- regular sleep and eating habits
- increase domestic comfort
treatment precautions
- dont abuse diuretics
- prostaglandin inhibitors -nsaids on prescription
- oral contraceptives (ovulation inhibitors) -if indicated
- progesterone (hormone treatment) if PMS SEVERE
- tranquilizers
- DECREASE caffeine intake
- vitamin supplement
- regular exercise IF POSSIBLE
- JUDICIAL USE of antidepressants
