10 Best Android Websites for Free Apps, Games, and Information

There are so many Android related websites out in the World Wide Web. Many of them are pretty high quality too.

I've put together a list of ten awesome sites that I use on a regular basis to see the latest news, get the best apps, and get the best tutorials and how-to's.

What makes a site a "good one"

  •  It has current info and regular posts.
  • It has reliable and safe links to apps.
  • It has great support and/or an involved community.

Please leave in the comments and sites you think are absolutely stellar as well and I will add them to a reader contributed link list on approval.

Andronica

Go There!

Andronica is a blog for beginners and for hardcore Android users.

At Andronica, you get the latest Android related news and relevant tips and tricks for your device.

If you are in the market for an Android device, Andronica will help with that too. They have reviews on phones, accessories, and other devices like Android run netbooks and TVs.

If you want the latest on the best apps the Android Market has to offer, check out the "Android Apps Alert" feature published weekly.

Wiki 4 Android

Go There!

Wiki4Android is completely app focused.

It features relevant and updated reviews on Android apps in all categories.

Download Starter Kits @Download.com

Go There!

CNet has six starter kits for your android phone.

  • Productivity
  • Social Networking
  • Communication
  • Music and photos
  • Dining and travel
  • More great apps

Each app in the starter kits have full Download.com reviews of that app, as well as the links or QRCode to download the app right away if you want.

CNET is a trusted location for the best reviews of PC software and tech devices for years. I usually visit CNET in some form or another about once a day. Of course, this is not always Android related, but I trust their articles and software suggestions as some of the highest quality on the web.

AndroidGuys

Go There!

I originally learned about AndroidGuys from their excellent weekly podcast.

Come to find out, they also have a stellar website and an Android app (which you can get HERE).

The AndroidGuys website keeps tabs on latest Android news, conferences/events, "hot rumors", reviews for devices and for software, "tips and tools", and they maintain a video archive.

Additionally, there is a fairly stellar "discover apps" portion of the AndroidGuys site that is nicely organized and easy to use.

Android Tapp

Go There!

Android Tapp's primary purpose is app reviews for phones, tablets, and anything running an Android OS.

Other website features include:

  • "Ask Nerd Girl"
  • Apps Blog
  • Freebies
  • "Get Reviewed" (are you a developer????, get your app reviewed)
  • Interviews with developers
  • News

Android and Me

Go There!

Like AndroidGuys, Android and Me also has a great podcast, but they record it less frequently.

Android and Me covers recent Android news, maintains a community forum, and covers other great topics like hacks, apps, and games. There is also a special section just for beginners to the Android OS.

A feature to look forward to that is "coming soon" to Android and Me is a "Labs" area, which could be pretty exciting depending on how they utilize it.

Android Forums

Go There!

Android Forums is perhaps the best Android community forum for the average user on the internet.

It is visually awesome, and it boasts that Android Forums has 260,000+ members.

You can get very specific info and discussion topics by type of phone or carrier.

Phandroid

Go There!

Phandroid is daddy to Android Forums, but is seperate enough to warrent its own space in my top ten list.

Phandroid also publishes a podcast, which you can check out HERE.

Discovering apps is another one of Phandroid's specialties, as they organize what used to be until recently the "chaos" that was the Android web based Marketplace.

AppBrain

Go There!

There are so many things I like about AppBrain that my best recommendation is to just try it.

Visit the website, install their app, and your Android Market experience will be improved dramatically.

AppBrain is by far my favorite 3rd party app market for the Android.

In recent news, Fast Web Install has been re-enabled now that Google's new web interface for the Android Market is live.

This app allows you to click "install" in the browser, and AppBrain will "push" the app to your phone without you even touching it.

This is exactly the same idea that Google's new web interface uses, but AppBrain from most accounts in recent news has a much higher success rate.

AndroLib

Go There!

AndroLib is yet another 3rd party app market for Android devices.

Its specialty is catering to the international community by offering the market in several different languages with the click of a button.

The overall site construction is fairly noisy and could be cleaned up for a better user experience.

Other positive features include a "Dev Corner", video and news, and wallpapers.
