The 10 Best Books for Personal Development
63Books that Can Change Your Life
I've always been kind of a science geek when it comes to studying people. I've studied practically everything from neuroscience to anatomy. How does the body work - how does the mind work and then how do they work together? My library is stacked with hundreds of books that I've kept over the years; even textbooks from college (told you I was a geek).
I figure I've read over 3,000 books since my teens (that's about two books a week for 20 years.....yes, I do get out of the house), most of them being non-fiction. To be honest, out of all of those books there were about two dozen that were amazingly transforming. But, below is a list of the Top 10 books that can change your life.
These are some of the books that I attribute to my own personal development and had they not opened my eyes and broken my whacky perceptions, I wouldn't be where I am today. I suggest everyone read these books and I even suggest them to all my coaching clients.
1. The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. This book is comprehensive, yet an easy to understand guide to self improvement and achieving goals. Great book!
2. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. This book addresses the psychology of money and helps you identify how your mindset affects your ability to make money. Written by a man who grew up poor, made his first million, lost it all and then become a multi-millionaire. Learn from him....
3. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. A classic and so worth reading. The title is a little deceiving - it's not about manipulating people, it is a guide to understanding human nature and how you can change personal and professional relationships with this understanding.
4. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Originally written in 1937, this book was far ahead of its time. Napoleon Hill was an advisor to Andrew Carnegie (considered to be the richest man in the world at one time), so if Mr. Carnegie was taking advice from Napoleon Hill - that should be reason enough to read his book.
5. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I've been reading personal development books almost my whole life, but this one is a gem. Most people have heard about the DVD and the book is almost an exact transcript of the movie. Get the movie or the book - but get one of them.
6. Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks. This may be a little out there for some people, but it is amazing information. If you want to learn how to create the life you have always wanted, then this book is for you.
7. Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen. A more conservative, spiritual approach to creating the life you have always wanted. Joel Osteen is the perfect blend of spiritual leader (without being too preachy) and The Secret (Law of Attraction). I'm spiritual, but not religious and thoroughly enjoyed his book.
8. If Life Is A Game, These are the Rules by Cherie Carter-Scott. A down-to-basics approach to life. Ten Rules for Being Human is the sub-title. Discusses basics like self-esteem, respect, compassion, etc. Quick read.
9. How Much Joy Can You Stand by Suzanne Falter-Barns. Great little book packed with tons of reasons why you should pursue your dreams. Suzanne is a life coach and even included exercises to help you break through your fears and find the courage to make your dreams happen.
10. Creation of Health by Caroline Myss. I have to be honest, if this book would have come to me a few years before it did, I would have balked at it. The author discusses how our emotions manifest themselves as diseases and ailments. Since the original publication date of 1998, there has been many studies on the subject and they've proven emotions can negatively or positively affect our health.

I would add 'Life Strategies' by Phil McGraw (before he became 'Dr. Phil') and anything by Orison Sweet Marsden.
Great Post :)
