10 Search Engine Optimization Tricks

1. Include keyword rich title tag that illustrates the key content on the page

2. Include important keywords in H1, H2 and H3 tags down the page

3. Bold important keywords and use italics too!

4. Name the page with important keywords with (-) separating the words

5. Build in-bound links to the page using the optimized keywords in the anchor text. It is best to build link to pages deep into the site - it is better to have a variety of relevant links to targeted pages than to have all links pointing to the homepage for instance that may not have a specific targeted topics. For instance: If a webmaster were trying to rank higher for the term "Porsche" the goal would be for the website to build inbound links to the most specific page about Porsche using Porsche and popular Porsche search terms in the anchor text of the link opposed to linking to the higher level category pages in the auto section of the site that may be about all automobiles, for example:

It is unlikely that a user seeking Porsche information would search "automobile information" and it is rather clear if searching for "Porsche Information" which page a user would prefer to land on from a search engine.  Most link decisions can be made by using common sense and by thinking of what will create the best experience for the end user.

Google, Bing and Yahoo among other search engines want to index pages for keywords that contains niche content. Remember the importance of inbound links... think of them as a "vote" for a particular page from a search engine's perspective.

6. Create a theme for your site's directory - each page funneling up to the top of the pyramid

7. Avoid linking to sites displaying irrelevant content and stay out of bad neighborhoods

8. Use Google, Bing or Yahoo webmaster tools to research sought after keywords - the keywords most search for your topic

9. Don't keyword spam - maintain the proper keyword density on your page - too many keywords may appear as spam to search engines

10. Don't hide text by using the same color as the background - search engines are smart and they will pull your page from the index for spamming.
