10 Cool DIY Projects Using Sculpey Polymer Clay

Sculpey is a great brand of product for people who are interested in using polymer clay for DIY projects in the home. Like other polymer clays, Sculpey can be molded into all sorts of different shapes and sculptures and then baked in a conventional oven to complete the project. This makes Sculpey a much more affordable option than modeling clays for DIY-ers who don’t have access to a kiln for firing but who do want to work with clay. Since it comes in lots of different colors and it’s easy to work with, Sculpey is a really cool product to get started with for DIY clay projects.

I happen to think that handmade journals are some of the best DIY projects out there. I make them often and use them for everything. One great Sculpey project is to use the polymer clay to create embellishments which can then be added to these homemade journals. The example here is a handmade recipe scrapbook that has been embellished with a grape motif made from Sculpey and other products.

One of the best things to make with Sculpey polymer clay is jewelry. There are loads and loads of jewelry projects that you can do at home using Sculpey. However, the start of any good jewelry project is really the creation of great beads. And yes, you can make all of your beads using the Sculpey clay itself. This example here is a set of candy glass beads that are made using just a few simple tools including metal leaf, transparent ink and clay blades.

These wired women doll pins are such a cute idea for a DIY project. You shape the dolls using jewelry wire, something that’s fairly simple to do once you’ve played around with the wire for a little while. Then you use the clay to create the female shape that you’re making. This is a great crafts project for a girls’ night! The pins can then be worn to show some solidarity with your sisters in creativity!

What an adorable little project that’s listed as one of the beginner’s projects on the Sculpey projects web page because it’s such a simple little thing to put together. Using Sculpey and some fabric, you can make a cute little angel. This would be a great present for a newborn baby or a terrific craft for the Christmas holidays, don’t you think?

In this example, we can see how cute it is to make a holiday-themed set of hair baubles like leprechauns for St. Patrick’s Day. However, you can make these in any shape that you want to as long as you let your creativity go wild with the clay. Just follow the basic instructions for this project but adapt them to making whatever design you desire for your own hair baubles project.

One of the things that I have found really contributes to my creativity as a writer is to have fun, silly things on my desk to inspire me throughout the day. This bunny-and-carrot pencil holder is one example of something that’s really easy to make with Sculpey and yet which can add a terrific burst of fun to every day once it’s done and sitting on your desk. Of course, you can reshape the holder into any design that you want but I happen to think that this original design is a great one to follow for a DIY project!

This is about as simple as you can get for a Sculpey project but isn’t the result just so terrific? These clay flowers can be used for a variety of things. Create an indoor garden of them during winter to brighten up your home. Make small versions to attach to packages that you’ve wrapped simply with brown paper to really create something unique for the gifts that you give to others. Get creative and simple Sculpey projects like these can really add to your DIY life!

I would love to try my hand at making something like this to give as a gift for a young girl’s room. Better yet, I’d love to get together with some young girls and throw a craft making party in which they get to make their own Sculpey fairy tale clocks to tale home and hang on the wall. This is an intermediate level project so it does require a little bit of work and some time investment but the result is a cool little clock that seems totally worth the creative effort that it requires.

There are a few things that I love about this project. First off, it’s totally useful since it lets you create olive oil and vinegar bottles for real use in your own kitchen (or to give as a gift for others to use). Second, it’s a green project since it involves recycling bottles that you might not otherwise use. And finally, it’s a fairly simple project that shows how Sculpey can be added in to a DIY project in an easy way but can still really enhance the final product.

Jewelry was at the top of my list of things that I like to make with polymer clay but what good is jewelry if you don’t have somewhere to store it? I think a purple heart shaped box like this one would be a great DIY project to make for storing all of the jewelry that you might also make with Sculpey. Of course, this box could be used for tons of stuff. Another thing I’d use it for would be to fill it with “reasons I love you” for someone that I care about and give it to them as a gift.
