10 Essential Things To Carry In Your Handbag
89
Women have misconceptions on what to carry in their handbags. We always end up carrying more stuff than we need, while always rummaging for stuff we really need without avail. Based on very thorough observation and personal experiences, here are the only 10 things we really need in our handbags.
Blackberry / Cell Phone
Make sure they're always fully-charged when you get out of the house. It's a small thing, but you'll never know when you'll need them to work.
Small Umbrella
I get it, you might drive your own car, but having this baby inside your bag is never a redundancy. Rain can come at any time, even in the sunniest summer day.
Wallet
Never leave home without it. Seriously!
Pressed Powder
No need to carry all make-up, a neutral-colored pressed powder will get you through the day.
Lip & Cheek Stain
A great combo for quick make-up fix.
Wet Tissues
Very important to fix almost anything.
Digital Camera
You wouldn't know what interesting stuff you come across. So keep one handy!
Sunglasses
If Audrey Hepburn had one, then a fashion-conscious girl should have one too. Go for a classic black color to suit every mood. The bigger the frame, the better!
Coin purse
Handy for the bus, your work I.D, USB drive and the house keys. Put 'em all in!
Cloth Shopping Bag
Be a friend of the earth. Fold a large cloth shopping bag and tuck it in your handbag! And who says it has to be a boring white one? Dare to colorize your groceries.
Now, if you've figured what to carry, maybe you need to start worrying about the right handbag to tote. That, my friend, is also my expertise as I collect the greatest bags in the world. It's all showcased in my personal blog about Anuschka handbags. Feel very free to visit! :)

Oh my goodness, my husband laughs at me and tells everyone, that I carry anything anyone could ever need at any time. I guess that probably comes with being a mom! I have just about all but the make-up. I rarely wear it!
@SweetiePie: Ah yes, camera-phone was my best bet. But then I figured I can't survive without my pink digicam, so I still think it's essential LOL :D Thank you for dropping by!
@Lilymag: You know, I started this hub as a way to force myself to release the clutter in my bag because my boyfriend laughs at me too. And I'm not even a mom yet! Maybe if someday I have kids, I'll take the whole house with me and start a new hub titled "How To Take The House With You Without Getting Too Much Attention" LOL. Thank you for dropping by :D
I'd like to ad a couple things that I think are vital, and don't take up all that much space.
1. Nail file (obvious reasons)
2. a small lotion. (i refill mine a lot)
3. a small mint tin (come on. you never know.)
Thats about it. :-)
@mishi619: right! okay, I'll go for a small make-up pouch to accomodate them, then :D
Completely agree, all those things are neccessary, thanks for that! i liked the whole mini umbrella, it was cute, i'll probably get one 4 myself!
Little umbrellas are awesome, but I also add acetominophen/aspirin/ibuprofen! You never know when you'll need it :(
so sed
Great hub - I must find one of those combo lip/cheek stains. By the end of the day at work, I always look so drawn. In my purse, I also carry chewing gum.
I think that my purse is like "Mary Poppin's", you never know what will appear. lol Great suggestions for a make over. Welcome to Hubpages.
@Dannie12: Totally. I got one from Esprit and it's cute and orange :D Besides, you won't need to worry about folding it when it's still a bit wet :)
@glassvisage: Right on! And you can put them in that teeny tiny pouch :)
@stephhicks68: I know exactly what you mean. I have the same problem too! You might want some ideas at my cheek stain reviews. They're the best invention in cosmetics world!
@In The Doghouse: Mine did too! And at one point I was worried my bag would fall apart if I keep doing that, hence the clutter makeover :D Thanks for welcoming me. Hubs are awesome :)
Nice list. Makes me want to carry a handbag...I mean a satchel :)
Only ten things for my purse! I need so much more...LOL
I agree with the nail file...so tiny, so handy! and a tiny tin of mints...thankfully the tins are getting smaller and smaller, as are the mints...get a clue Altoids! BUT, to admit, recently on two week vacation...trying to be practical...only took one purse, an "oversize" clutch, but still a clutch...(for guys out there a clutch is a slim profile, relatively small size purse category)...by end of trip...I'd totally broken the clasp by trying to squeeze in just one more item!
Very Inventive - good hub.
I like your article, it hits to close to home. My wife is guilty carrying to much. She carries a backpack full of stuff.

I remember my granny always had a sewing kit, first aid kit and plenty of sweeties in her handbag. I used to have giantic handbags when my children were babies, now I make them carry their own stuff and I use just a small handbag for myself.
The must items in my handbag? The cell phone (I use the camera in it if I need to) lipgloss, mints ot chewing gum and credit card.
Great hub!
I love your check stain reviews, and if I may be so bold to suggest that you link your two hubs together? You can get more traffic that way! Again, love your writing and information. Steph
Very useful things to carry... I usually have about 6 out of the 10 in my purse
-Nicki B.
Like your Hub. I usually carry a few more things! A tiny flashlight has been very useful in emergencies such as dropping a contact lense in my car. Reading glasses are (sadly) essential for many of us. Sometimes I slip in a small pair of binoculars if I am going somewhere like the harbour. As you can imagine, I often carry a large bag.
Oh my ... seems I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I only have a pen, a coin purse, my cellphone and lipgloss in my bag. That's it. It's tiny ... but it works for me. Hmmm ... perhaps getting a slightly bigger bag and adding some of the essentials above might be something to consider.
Thats more than I ever carry but I usually end out wanting all that stuff.
My philosophy was always: WALLET, CELL PHONE KEYS, PRESSED POWDER, LIP GLOSS. Everything else can be added when needed.
UM how about TAMPONS!?! also i usually bring a nail clipper and bandaids
everybody left out the most important thing..tampons...come on we r all wemen here...sheesh
hahaha. it makes me realize that I have so much more in my bag.
hey, a hair brush is very reqd
Hi sophie, i was laughing at your comment about you writing a hub "How To Take The House With You Without Getting Too Much Attention" LOL My handbag is small since I don't like bringing huge handbags but I end up having another bag which I just put in the car. In the end, there are so many bags like I am travelling all the time. LOL
Nice hub! I used to carry everything but the kitchen sink! Then I realized how it was hurting my back. Watch out ladies!
Listen to her. You only need a few things. I have one of those smalll purses now with just what I need and if I need more I carry another bag ( only if I have too).
I just have my wallet (containing keys), camera and a notebook with a pen attatched. There's no need for anything else really.
totally along with hand sanatiser, first aid, comb pad and $$$$$$ mula
anyways its always gud to have a really big handbag...i love the gigantic ones
mine is so big that i carry more than 10 things
mobile
wallet
lipgloss
pressed powder
sunglass
wet tissue
manicure set
small umbrella
coin purse
hand lotion
facewash
small towel
tampons
notepad
pen
a few novels
now u can imagine how big my handbag wud be!!!!
Luv this hub. Am having a bridal shower, and one of the games is "What's in your handbag". You all gave me some great ideas to finish my list. TOL (Thanx a lot)
Mary

This is so me, carrying way too much and looking for an item later. I continually have to work on organizing my purse. One thing I like is having a cell phone with a digital camera, which kills two birds with one stone. Thanks for the entertaining hub :).
