49Starting a blog is easy when you know the basic steps to take:
1. Decide on your goals for your blog, and the topics you will cover. Will you be creating a personal blog? A blog to ehance your professional or business reputation? Blogging for money (advertising revenue or affiliate income)?
2. Choose a name for your blog, and a short "tag line" that you will use to describe it.
3. Evaluate and decide on a blogging platform and set it up. Examples are Typepad and Wordpress.
4. Pick the appearance of your blog, and obtain the template you want.
5. Determine how you will distribute and promote your blog. For example, contacting other bloggers, obtaining listings in blog directories, and syndicating an RSS feed.
6. Choose how you will interact with visitors. Will you be open to comments, or not?
7. Determine how you will reap the benefits of your blog. Personal satisfaction? Building a reputation as a trusted authority? Making money directly.
8. Choose additional functionality for your blog. There are hundreds of "widgets to choose from.
9. Adopt a personal approach to keep you motivated, and keeping on blogging. Make blogging a habit.
10. Figure out how much outside help you need to get started, and to keep going, to reach your blogging goals.
