10 THINGS ABOUT ILLINOIS
66
President Obama
Michael Jordan
- ILLINOIS IS EXTREMELY FLAT! I never had to listen much about parking on hills in drivers ed. because in Illinois, the hills are pitiful! It's great for long bike rides and running if you don't want a lot of things making it hard for you to ride/run.
- LAKE MICHIGAN! Because Illinois is on the edge of Lake Michigan we have the benefit of the beaches in Chicago. Unfortunately, once summer really gets going it turns into complete tourist territory and it's better to go to other beaches. But the lake is nice to have year-long as it means that for those of us who live close enough to it, we don't have to have well water!
- THE HOME OF PRESIDENT OBAMA! If you support our current president or not, he started out in humble politics in Chicago.
- THE LAND OF LINCOLN! President Lincoln was not born in Illinois, but for some reason, we get all the credit for him. The president famous for the Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War came from Salem, Illinois.
- CHICAGO! Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the world. Home of the Sears Tower (it will NEVER be called Willis Towers to true Chicagoans) and the Magnificent Mile. Both are famous for great reasons but Chicago has more history than can possibly be written about.
- WRIGLEY FIELD! I am a Yankees fan but Wrigley Field is famous to all baseball fans. Anyone who loves baseball should think that Wrigley Field is a great place, just like Shea Stadium and Fenway Park.
- MICHAEL JORDAN! The legendary Michael Jordan lived in Chicago for years. He actually used to love a pancake house in my home town. He taught basketball camps all over Illinois and I had the fortune of attending one. I couldn't believe my luck of being coached by one of the best basketball players of all time!
- HOME OF THE BEARS, THE BULLS, THE WHITE SOX, THE FIRE, AND THE CUBS! Chicago has a huge number of sports teams and it's a privilege to get to live here and see games all of the time. In the summer it's fun to go to Cubs games and Fire games as these tickets are the cheapest.
- THE BEST HOT DOGS IN THE WORLD! Have you ever heard of a Chicago Style Hot Dog? Well don't try one unless you're in Chicago. In fact, the best ones come from Wrigley Field. The best chain restaurant from Chicago is Portillo's.
- FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT! Frank Lloyd Wright is a celebrated architect who has designed several houses in Illinois. One in Springfield, Oak Park (I believe), and another in Elmhurst. It's cool to see such interesting architecture.
