10 Things To Do With the Sock the Dryer DIDN'T Eat
79
1. Make a Sock Puppet
This is easy! You can either create a simple puppet using just a couple of permanent markers or you can be a bit more creative and use all sorts of craft supplies.
For example, you could use buttons, gems, beads and embroidery to create a one of a kind puppet set. If you have a bunch of different patterns, use them to create a set of zoo animals.
Anything is possible when you are creative!
2. Recycled Dusters
This is simple - use them as dusting mitts to clean your tables and other furniture.
Simply put the sock over your hand, spray some cleaner on the palm and dust away!
3. Make A Under the Door Draft Stopper
If you have a bunch of tube socks, you can fill them with sand or kitty litter and use them under your doors to stop the draft from coming in.
You can use all sorts of items to make this fun or to match your decor. For example, a striped sock can be used to make a snake. Plain socks can be decorated to look like cats or dogs. You could possibly just glue a simple random jewel decor or do some embroidery.
4. Sell Them!
EBay is great for everything! Plenty of younger girls pay lots of money now for mismatched socks. There's even a company that sells just that. Also, a lot of dancers will use them for competitions and performances.
If you have a preteen or teenage daughter who likes all of those funky socks like I do and if she happens to lose them frequently, like mine does, you could save them and sell them in lots on eBay. Also, if your lot is a good enough price, you might find some crafty shopper that is willing to buy them for their own use.
5. Make Nifty Arm Warmers
The 80's are back. For some reason..
Cut a hole in the toes of mismatched socks large enough to fit 4 fingers (your hand without the thumb) through. Then, cut out a small hole in the side for the thumb and stitch or use some fabric glue around the areas where you cut. Ta-DA! You have a set of funky arm warmers that dance stores and users on eBay charge up to $20 a piece for.
Use some creative decorating and embroidery to spice it up a bit. For example, you could sew lace or sequins or glue feathers or ribbons around the edges. Add some glitter, fabric paint graffiti or rhinestone sparkles for a more personal touch.
6. Potpourri Sachets
Use these in drawers, closets and other areas that get that old, musky smell.
Fill them with potpourri and tie. Smaller socks can be used in drawers and such and longer socks can be tied to hangers to hang in the closet.
These are convenient because once the potpourri smell wears out, you can untie it, wash it, refill it and use it again.
7. Make A Cat Toy
Buy some cat nip at the store and use it to fill an old sock. You can either simply it, making it easy to reuse or cut and sew it to make it smaller and neater looking.
8. Popsicle Mittens
Use them for mittens for small hands while eating popsicles or other gooey, messy treats. They keep little hands warm and clean and make clean up easier on mom. You can stash them in diaper bags or purses and have clean hands on the go. The normally fold inside out when pulling them off so most of the mess stays inside of the sock and can be thrown in the washer with all of the other laundry instead of adding to the trash with wipes or trying to find a sink, fountain, water bottle, anything.. to wash your messy toddlers hands off.
9. Make Snowmen!
These are actually really cute. I learned how to make them from my son while he was in preschool years ago.
Depending on how long the sock is, you can make a two or 3 tiered snowman.
Take the sock and fill with beans or rice until you have a nice round bottom, tie or use a rubber band to tie the first tier. Fill again, making the second tier slightly smaller than the first. Tie a second time. If you have enough room, repeat, making the third tier slightly smaller than the second and tie at the top.
Create a face with permanent markers or sew on buttons or other items to make it however you want.
10. Donate Them!
There are plenty of craft ideas that involve socks. Most schools don't have the funding necessary to buy the craft items needed for their classrooms. Save you clean, mismatched socks and donate them to your local preschool, kindergarten or daycare. They will appreciate it, believe me!

I use mine to remove nail polish instead of cotton balls. I can wash it over and over again (about 4 or 5 times) before I have to throw it away. I have a whole drawer that I keep them in. My kids use them to wipe snow off their shoes and any oher litle things they need them for. I don't buy paper towels (I think it's a waste) so socks are the perfect solution:)
Hey, moonlight! I didn't see where the hub had been answered! I just answered it, too, but mine is a little on the off-the-wall side. We had some of the same things, sorry! I'm new to hubpages. Answering the requests is fun! This was my second one!
Wow! what a lot of things to do with the odd socks, and I have a basquet full of them already waiting. The puppets are an excellent idea to keep the children busy during the endless wintery afternoons.
Great suggestions. I'll try these out if my golden retreiver will let me.
You socked it to us with this one - wow that's a lot one can do with one little sock! Thanks - great hub!
I'm almost tempted to lose one of my socks deliberately, so I can try out some of these ideas with the other one.
The sock puppet is my favorite! :)
Moonlight Dancer, this hub is a hubnugget! Yes, it is! Go and read Funride's hub by clicking on this link http://hubpages.com/hub/hubnuggets-feb6-2009 for the details! Congratulations. :-) Make sure to cast your vote and let all the people you know vote too. Okay? Great hub.
See....isn't this cool? You've been chosen for the hubnuggets! Congrats! Good luck to you!
Teresa "could" make two of the suggestions if she always has a pair.
Interesting that two hubs on the same subject were chosen for hubnuggests., both were very good. I'm glad, becaue I have lots of 'onesies' in my oddity bag.
I noticed that too Rochelle. Both of these fine authors were answering my hub request......which makes it extremely difficult for me to vote this week! I wish them both all the luck in the world!
Some really cool ideas here! Great article! I love the sock snowmen...
brillant ideas!

Oh my gosh, what a cute hub. Thank you so much for answering my hub request! Lots of crafty ideas here! I never knew people actually sold them on eBay. I should have guessed though...you see everything on eBay.
