Save Money by Buying More Essentials on Ebay

Ebay has long been the best place to find a deal, but many people don't know what to buy on the auction site, or can't find the deals in the first place. When it comes to Ebay, there are certain products that you're better off buying than others. For example, you may want to buy your video games, brand new coffee machines, and electronics through Ebay, but avoid buying heavy, bulky items like fridges, air conditioners, and luggage because of the high shipping charges (unless shipping is very reasonable, or you're opting for local pick up). Read on to find ten things that you should be buying on Ebay right now to save yourself some money and have the convenience of shipping it right to your front door!

You'll Also Be Helping ou the Little Guy

Not only will you be finding a great deal, but you'll be helping small businesses, work at home Moms, and people looking to make a great part time income from Ebay. Doesn't that feel better than supporting the massive chain stores?

Buy Your Electronics on Ebay

Ipods are a great example of how you can find a deal much cheaper on Ebay than anywhere else. If you're willing to buy used, you'll be saving a great deal of money. Cut the new price in half if you're buying pre owned, sometimes much more. If you're still buying new, you can save 10-30% as a rule of thumb on most in demand electronics.

Supplies for Ebay Selling: Computers, Packing Peanuts, Printers and More

Are you an Ebay seller, or do you make your living online? Ebay can be the perfect place to find the best deals on items from packing peanuts to color printers and laptops. I've personally found that packing peanuts are far less on Ebay than in stores. At the local Staples, I found a small bag for around $15. I found a giant bag available for $20, and I received around twenty times as much.

With other business items, like computers, printers, desks and chairs, these items are often best bought brand new. Check to see if the item comes with a warranty, check the feedback of the seller, and check the return policy.  Sellers have access to large lots at wholesale prices or less, often outcompeting their big box store neighbors.

Save Money on Shoes on Ebay

Shoes are an easy thing to buy brand new on Ebay and easily save $20-60 per pair of shoes. Find out what you're size is for a particular brand (it helps if you've owned the brand before) and type in your size along with the brand name into the Ebay search. There are hundreds of big time shoe store sellers on Ebay that have thousands of brand new, not used, designer shoes to choose from. Shipping will usually be around $10, so factor that into your purchase.

Timeshares - A Giant Steal on Ebay

Timeshares are not quite as popular as they used to be, and because of this, the market on Ebay has been flooded with timeshares. This is good news to anyone that's looking to buy one. Just like the real estate market, prices have come way down as buyers ditch their timeshares as they can't afford them. Individual sellers and timeshare agencies place these on Ebay often starting at 99 cents. What you'll pay are the attorney or closing fees for the transaction, plus any maintenance fees yearly to the association the timeshare is affiliated with. Expect to pay between $100-400 or more in yearly maintenance fees, which is still far less than staying an entire week at a local hotel in some areas. Look for timeshares in areas that are typically expensive to stay in, like the coast of Florida, for example.

Finding Brand New Clothing on Ebay

You can find new clothing or used clothing on Ebay at rock bottom prices if you know what to look for while shopping. If you're looking for brand new, search for the brand and size, along with the term "NWT," which stands for "new with tags." After finding you're clothing, research the seller's feedback score and make sure the percentage is high (above 98%). Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous sellers pawning off counterfeit designer clothing on Ebay. Here are some things that you should be looking for to avoid those sellers:

  • A proven high feedback score, often in the thousands with a high feedback score
  • Close up shots of logos, tags
  • Look for shirts in plastic bags, often a sign of fakes
  • Only buy from sellers that accept PayPal and have a solid return policy
  • Never send money orders

Brand New Perfume or Cologne

Perfume or cologne are some of the most expensive non-essential items that you might be currently buying. If you're spending above $20, you can save a substantial amount by purchasing the cologne or perfume on Ebay. The one catch: check the shipping costs and make sure that it's reasonable. Again, sticking with a seasoned Ebay seller can save you headaches and can often be more reliable than the novice seller. On the other hand, that newbie seller might have a better deal because they don't have the reputation under their belt. Whichever you choose, make sure the return policy is clear in case the item arrives damaged or the item is not as described. By buying on Ebay, expect to save $10-50 on your perfume or cologne. Buy used, and you'll save even more.

Digital Cameras and Memory Cards

Digital cameras can be found on Ebay used for far less than half the retail price. Brand new, they can be 30% or more less than retail. Make sure that you aren't buying refurbished if you think you are bidding on a new item (read the entire description).

Memory cards are often half the price of retail as well. Buy in bulk and you can save yourself on shipping.

DVDs, CDs, Music, Movies and Other Media

While Amazon often has a stronghold on the books category, Ebay offers unbelievable deals on CDs, DVDs, and even old VHS tapes. Even if you're looking for BluRay, those can be found still much cheaper on auction. Buying in lots are usually where the biggest deals are found. Sellers package up several, sometimes hundreds, of used DVDs into an entire lot. Sometimes they end high, sometimes they'll end at very reasonable prices. Look for auctions ending late at night, during the early morning hours, or that have bad photos for the best deals. One word of caution: these are used, so find out the condition of the items before you bid!

Designer Handbags and Accessories on Ebay

Finding designer handbags on Ebay can save you a great deal of money from the full retail price. How do the seller find them? They'll find them at local outlet stores or clearance sales, and resell them on Ebay at a higher price, but still lower than the full retail price. Like clothing, you'll want to avoid sellers that have low feedback scores. Make sure the sellers guarantee the authenticity of the item and have a return policy. Sellers with feedback scores in the high hundreds or thousands are often safe. Again, use PayPal for this transaction to make sure you have insurance. You can also visit the Ebay discussion boards to ask about a certain item and see what other full time sellers think of the item (and whether it's authentic).

Buy Brand New Kitchen Appliances Far Below Retail

Brand new (and used) appliances can be found at amazing prices on Ebay. If you're looking for a gift for someone else or if you prefer brand new, you can find them new in the box from many sellers that will offer steep discounts. Like everything else, if you're willing to buy used, you can expect to save 50% or more in most instances. Make sure all of the attachments, plugs, and other items will be included with anything that you bid on. If you have any questions, email the seller. This will tell you what type of customer service you can expect should any problems arise as well.

This is a very useful guide to some cheap things which can be bought cheaply on eBay. Whilst I have not bought many of these things I ahve bought used CDs and DVDs, often for about a pound, whereas they retail in the shops and other online retailers for much more. Another things which is cheap on eBay are other electronic accesories. For example memory cards and batteries. It is possible to get such goods much more than half price when purchasing these goods on eBay, even when shipping costs have been included.
