10 Ways That YOU Can Go Green
5610 Ways That YOU Can Go Green
Here are 10 ways that anyone can go green and make a difference for our planet! You will almost always be saving yourself MONEY by doing this too!
1. Change your lightbulbs to LED rather than compact flourescent or incandescent (normal light bulbs). The inital expense will be more than covered in reduced electricity costs within 6 months - 2 years. After that, you'll continue to save money on (and CO2 emissions caused by) electricity and not have to replace the LED for 8-20 years depending on usage!
2. Program your thermostat and wear appropriate clothing in your home. When you're not home, you don't need to have the AC or heat on, unless you have pets. If you don't have a programmable thermostat, buy one. It will pay for itself within one year by reducing your electricity bill associated with heating/cooling your home. Use windows and shades to keep cool in summer and to let in more sunlight in winter.
3. Clean or replace your air conditioning filter
4. Unplug any electronic devices, computers, video games, TV that you are not using. You can plug them into a power strip and simply turn the power strip off.
5. Bring a canvass bag or two with you to the grocery store or farmer's market.
6. Shower with cold water or at least turn off the water while you soap up. You can also buy a low flow shower head with a shut off valve.
7. Regularly tune up your car and keep your tires properly inflated.
8. Carpool, take the bus, ride a bike to work or better yet, work from home.
9. Eat less meat and dairy products - one meat meal per day provides more than enough protein. Many people don't realize that the number one contributing factor to global warming is large scale animal agriculture or "factory farming". This fact was stated by UN Climate Scientists. More info can be found at www.earthsave.org.
10. Buy organic vegetables and buy from local farmers if possible. The less your food has to travel to get to your plate, the more energy you save and the better it is for our planet.
