10 Ways To Be Greener ♥
5910 Ways To Be Greener
Here are 10 ways you can be greener:
1. Do Not Idle Your Vehicle for More Than 1 minute
Don't let your car idle, turn it off! Idling uses twice as much gas as driving.
2. Bike, Walk or Car-pool
The more people that take the bus, walk or car-pool means there are less cars on the road.
3. Don't Buy Products in Plastic Packaging
Bottled water for example, consumes roughly 17
million barrels of oil every year, not including transportation. Three gallons of water is required to produce one gallon of bottled water. The longer your water is stored in plastic bottles, the higher the concentration of the harmful chemical BPA you drink. We are dumping 40 million plastic water bottles per day. Plastic does not break down and releases harmful chemicals in the environment.
4. Conserve Energy
Use energy efficient light bulbs and appliances, wash clothes in
cold water and lower the thermostat. There are many renewable energy options for homes today to help save the environment and your wallet.
5. Conserve Water
Leaking toilets are the most common cause of high water bills, toilet
flushing is the largest single use of water in a home, followed by
showering and bathing. Do not leave water hoses or taps running. Use
water-efficient appliances and taps in your home.
Lawn watering tips: Apply one inch of water once a week, only if watering
is needed. Water early in the morning or late in the evening. Experts say lawns don’t need watering at all, as grass will go dormant during extended periods of dry weather and will return to
normal once dry weather stops.
6. Recycle, Reuse and Reduce
Bring re-usable bags when you shop!
7. Compost at Home
8. Plant Trees
Trees lower the atmospheres temperature, give you shade creating less energy costs to heat or cool your home and they purify our air! Not to mention they look beautiful.
9. Buy Locally
Support locally when possible. When the
average person sits down for a meal, each ingredient has
typically traveled at least 2,500 km!
10. Stop Using Harmful Pesticides and Cleaners.
Common cleaning products and pesticides cause cancer and are unfriendlty to the environment. Use environmentaly friendly products.
