You don't have to look like a model or have millions of dollars to feel great about who you are. We are bombarded with images of people the world tells us we should look like, act like, dress like, even smell like - what's the average American to do?

First, realize that NOBODY is perfect. Nobody has it ALL together. Just because people seem perfect doesn't mean they are. Most people face the same problems. Once you realize that you can't be perfect you'll likely calm down a little. Take into account that true beauty really does come from within. By loving others more than yourself you'll reap countless benefits that will make you feel great about yourself- it's a win win...The more you give, the more you get. It seems cliche but it's true.

Next, take time to care for yourself. I don't mean lose 30 pounds or get a facelift - I mean take care of yourself in the here and now. Stop waiting to be kind to yourself. Go to the spa, buy some new clothes, spend more time in the bathroom, get out in the sun. Take a little time for yourself every day. Being busy is no excuse to neglect your own care. If you're caring for yourself you'll be better equipped to care for others. There's something to be said for smelling nice and looking sharp...not for the benefit of others but for what it will do for your own confidence. You don't have to be a size 2 or have it all together to pamper yourself. You are the steward of your life - it was given to you to care for and cultivate. Don't sit around waiting to like yourself - get up and do something about it.

Consider your faith. Studies show that people who are spiritually connected are more at peace with themselves because they are looking at the big picture. Being "eternity minded" will help give your life meaning, especially in the world we live in today. If you're viewing the "grand scheme" you will realize that, in the long run, the petty stuff just doesn't matter. When you come to the end of your life on earth it won't matter how much money you made or how much you weighed. Concentrate on a worthwhile legacy - all that other stuff is just secondary.

Be romantic. If you have a special someone, spend some time with that person. Being in love releases countless endorphins. Do a little making out. Consider dropping the kid's at grandma's for the weekend. Spend some time recounting how you felt when your relationship was new. Have your sweetie tell you what he or she saw in you in the first place. You'll feel fabulous.

If you don't have a sweetie - you can still release those endorphins through exercise. Moderate exercise will release those feel good chemicals too. If you're feeling particularly low - go for a jog or hit an aerobics class. Exercise is great for the mind as well as the body.

Don't give up on you but don't be cocky - you are not, nor will you ever be, the center of THE universe - but you are likely the center of SOMEBODY's universe...your husband, wife, kids, dog, parents, or maybe even your best friend or neighbor - somebody cares...and that's a great reason to be happy about being you!

It's the only skin we've got! I think we fail to take care of ourselves...always stressin' over something "over" there...or the next thing to do...or what didn't get done. I'm beginning to believe many things can be left for tomorrow -- if we take time to enjoy today!

thanks for reminding us we're important.
