Creating a list of the top 10 best SNES games ever is definitely something that will be subjective towards the creator's personal views. Both the games that make the list and the order of the list can be debated. Here is a list of the top 10 best SNES games ever.

10 - Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting - This game gave the Street Fighter characters new color schemes, new special techniques, and additional game speed. The game replaced the need for arcade operators to install various hacks which allowed for increased speed in game play.

9 - EarthBound - Also known as Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back, EarthBound was a role-playing video game for the SNES. The game was a great success in Japan and is considered by critics to be one of the greatest RPGs on the SNES, as well as one of the best RPGs of the 1990s.

8 - Final Fantasy II - Although not as ground breaking in the graphics department, FFII was praised for its content and the game's length. It added many of the features to the Final Fantasy series that fans would later come to expect from all Final Fantasy games.

7 - Mega Man X - This game was the second series for the Mega Man franchise and debuted on the SNES. It was intended to give a new image for the Mega Man series and it did. The game spawned over half a dozen follow-up games as well as another series, Megan Man Xtreme, and a spin-off series, Mega Max X: Command Mission.

6 - Chrono Trigger - Both commercially successful and lauded by reviewers, Chrono Trigger has sold millions of copies since its release. It is considered not only as one of the best games for the SNES, but one of the best games on any console of all time.

5 - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - Often referred to simply as the Super Mario RPG, this game was first released in 1996 to great reviews. The game setting was well received and garnered great praise from both fans and reviewers for the quality of the graphics and visual style.

4 - Super Mario World - A side-scrolling platformer, Super Mario World was the ultimate Mario series platform game for the SNES. The game took three years to develop by the game design team, but has since sold over twenty million copies making it one of the best selling games ever.

3 - Final Fantasy III - This game is the best RPG in a series that is widely considered the best RPG series ever created. The game has sold millions of copies and been ported to multiple gaming platforms. The series legacy still lives on to this day with multiple Final Fantasy games coming out each year.

2 - Super Metroid - A single-player, action-platform game, Super Metroid was the third installment in the Metroid series. Upon release, it was awarded with Game of the Month, Best Action Game of the Year, and as one of the Best Games of All Time by multiple reviewers.

1 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Acclaimed for its graphics and game play, A Link to the Past is generally recognized as one of the greatest games for any console platform of all time. The game was a massive success in both Japan and the United States and has been re-released on multiple platforms since its debut on the SNES.

There are many different games that could have made this list. There are also many other games that should have made this list. In the end, it had to come down to ten. This is a list of the top 10 best SNES games ever. What is your top ten?

I loved Super Metroid! Loved all of the Metroid games actually. I miss the simplicity sometime of these games. The leap from Atari to Nintendo was huge. The more time passes, the hard it is to find the games you used to love.

I'm down with you list EXCEPT there's no Mario Kart. Who didn't love Mario Kart?

@ tufftuff - There are always ROMs for old school games. The problem I have with those is that it is different playing a SNES (or other older console) game on the PC. It just feels different.

@ satomko - I love Mario Kart. It is definitely one of my personal all-time favorites. The replay-factor of that game is huge. It just never gets old.
