Introdution

Acne is a inflammatory disease of the skin wich is visible through different type of lesion.

Note that is higly recommended to consult your personal doctor before to put in action any of this treatments.

Exfoliation of skin

The exfoliation of the skin can either be done on a machine as by chemicals such as Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. They work by preventing the accumulation of dead cells and also help in unblocking the pores affected. Among the topical treatments, the Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are the most effective medications. However, the use of them can not be overstated, the risk of bringing even more oils to the skin.

Topical and Oral Antibiotics

Topical antibiotics are external application killing the bacteria that are harbored in the blocked follicles. Some examples of topical antibiotic are erythoromycin, clindamycin, stievamycin or tetracycline.Using topical antibiotics is achieved the same effect as with oral antibiotics with the advantage of avoiding side effects common to oral antibiotics (e.g. tetracycline: yellowing of the teeth and an imbalance of gut flora). Since the antibiotics are becoming less resistant to Acne that is more widespread, the application of this treatment is in disuse since it is not proving effective.

Hormonal treatment

In women, it is possible the application of hormone treatment, which is the intake of oral contraceptives which counteract the effects of excess of male hormones.

Topical retinoids

The topical retinoids act in regulating the life cycle of the follicle cells, dissolving and preventing the formation of comedones. They do not prevent the production of tallow. Are related to vitamin A.

Oral Retinoids

Is the daily intake of retinoids like isotretinoin over a period of 6 to 8 months. Isotretinoin has been very efficient, however, can cause dangerous side effects. Therefore, should only be used to treat severe acne and very resistant.

Phototerapy

There are 2 ways commonly used to treat ACNE using phototerapy:

'Blue' and red light: This a tretament with visible light. The results are the similar or even better than benzoyl peroxide. The great advantage of this treatment is that unlike most of the other treatments few or any negative side effects are usually experienced;

Laser treatment: Laser surgery has been in use to reduce the scars left behind by acne. However there are concerns that laser treatments for acne will induce hyperpigmented macules or cause long-term dryness of the skin.

Other treatments

There are many other treatments but less used like: Aloe Vera, Azelaic acid, calendula, cortisone, heat, naproxen or ibuprofen, nicotinamide, tea tree oil, rofecoxib, zinc, cormedo extraction, pantotenic acid, detoxification and others.
