# 25 ~ A Christmas Story
I Like The Wizard of Oz.
Based on the Jean Shepherd novel "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash", this is the one we either love or dread once a year, every year. I personally spent about six or seven years away from the tradition because I was all laughed out on Ralphie and the gang. Two years ago, I was home visiting my folks who are grandparents now and the sound of my nephew's laughter when Randy can't put his arms down put all that disdain to bed forever. Lucky thing too cause it's still fuckin' funny as hell.
A Christmas Story ~ 1983
Ralphie, Randy, Mom and The Old Man make us feel better about the whole holiday mayhem. There are scenes in it that remain so overplayed that we go and say hello to a relative during it, such as...
- The tongue on the pole bit.
- The father mourning the broken lamp.
- The bunny suit.
- The blinded-by-soap-poisoning dream.
- and fra-gee-lay!
However I still get quite a thrill from..
Watching Scut Farkus get his ass kicked!
Watching Randy eat like a piggie!
Watching the moment when Daddy didn't 'kill Ralphie' cause the hero Mom leaves him out of the loop and "things were different between me and my Mom from that day forward."
Watching This Clip!!! ^^^^
and fah ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra rahhh!
It is at number 25 for obvious reasons, I get korny sometimes. Ba!
By the way the writer Jean Shepherd also plays the narrator and I ask you, "How many times do we get to hear a story straight from the authors mouth in a film?" His voice sounded like 1940's Chicago because he was there, he's playing Adult Ralphie because he IS Adult Ralphie! Now think about how would Stand By Me have sounded with Stephen King narrating instead of Richard Dreyfuss? Whoa.
# 24 ~ Big
Billy Visiting Josh at Work
SECOND VERSE, SAME AS THE FIRST!
Two Funny Movies with the same problem! They are over-exposed! When you've seen anything funny 14 or more times it tends to get annoying!
(10 exceptions coming soon to a Hub near you, my Top Ten !!!)
This is also before Tom Hanks get so over-exposed we wanted to puke on him. I swear for like six years after Gump I couldn't even look at this man who had cracked me up for so long. Moving On.
Big ~ 1988
12 year old Josh Baskin makes a wish on a Zoltar machine to be big and it comes true with a vengeance. His Mom (Mercedes Ruehl) attacks him thinking he's a kidnapper so he flees with his best friend Billy to Manhattan. The following scenes are again so overplayed I wanna puke like..
- The Chopsticks Keyboard in FAO.
- The "I don't get it" scene pictured above.
- Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko-Pop.
- The trampolene.
but I still love it...
when he turns the light back on!
when Billy says anything! Kid slays me.
when he cashes his first paycheck and they go wild on the town!
when he meets Jon Lovitz who absolutely kills me!
# 23 ~ Clerks
Jedi Talk with Randal & Dante
The films by Silent Bob that did not make this list are...
- Mallrats ~ 1995
- Chasing Amy ~ 1997
- Dogma ~ 1999
- Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back ~ 2001
- Clerks II ~ 2006
Clerks ~~~ 1994
The odyssey of Kevin Smith movies begins right here! Dante and Randal have jobs they don't care for and customers they care for even less. Dante runs a convenience store and Randal the video store, unless of course he happens to be at a 'decent video place' renting movies he can't get at his own. Dante attends and crashes a funeral thanks to his HS buddy who knocks over the casket. The entire day is one funny thing after another with the highlight being Dante's girlfriend Veronica admitting how many blowjobs she's given.
# 22 ~ Liar Liar
The Big Meeting with the Bosses
Jim Carrey has TWO very funny comedies and here is the first of those two. The ones that will not make the cut are..
- Ace Ventura: Pet Detective ~ 1994
- The Mask ~ 1994
- Me, Myself & Irene ~ 2000
- Bruce Almighty ~ 2003
- Fun with Dick and Jane ~ 2005
Liar Liar ~ 1997
Fletcher Reede is a bad father. He lies to his son Max and ex-wife Audrey so much that they are starting to lose affection for him. The son makes a wish at his birthday party (which Fletcher fails to attend) that his Dad can't tell a lie for just one day. Comedy ensues. No matter what the circumstances, Fletcher can not lie and considering he is an attourney, that could be an altogether difficult day.
# 21 ~ Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Bueller. Ferris Bueller.
Matthew Broderick is one of those actors that we take for granted because he does it so effortlessly every time. The great comedies he was in that didn't make the list are...
- WarGames ~ 1983 (not really a comedy I guess.)
- Biloxi Blues ~ 1988
- The Lion King ~ 1994
- The Cable Guy ~ 1996 (also with Jim Carrey)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off ~ 1986
Playing hookie will never be more fun than this. Seriously, in your wildest dreams you couldn't have this much fun in just one day. Ferris Bueller is taking a day off from the tediums of high school and he's bringing along his best friend Cameron and his girlfriend Sloane. Trouble is big sister Jeanie and dean of students Ed Rooney keep trying to bust him. Will he get away with it? Duh! Save Ferris!

Saved was great! Especially when the kid from Home Alone dresses up like a roller skate! Classic.
yeah. I loved Saved!
I bought it the day after I rented it. The church is so high and mighty on itself that it was nice to see America's sweetheart Mandy Moore kick 'em where it hurts a little.
nice. love clerks. my mother rented it for me after it came out. me and my buddy watched like ten minutes of it and turned it off, cause it was black and white and we were teenagers and above that. then we went out to our rope swing, did a lil puff puff and voila! one of the funniest movies ever. terrible acting, but sometimes a terrific script is all that matters. anytime you can spend more on the soundtrack than the movie and have a gem like that, you are a true filmmaker. too bad the second one sucked!
big and ferris bueller both classics. think i'm just a little turned off by them cause they're on tv every day. didn't really like liar liar, no longer a james carey fan. he reached his prime in in living color.
I love Tom Hanks' BIG and Luke Wilson's IDIOCRACY. I think both movies are really funny. Great list you got here, dude :D
I love Jim Carrey movies and hey that licking the frozen pole has fond memories for me. Meaning, my little brother, eating a hot radish decided to lick the freezer plate in the creating a family moment frozen in time for ever. The results much like the moviel. Pun intended.
Funny but Good. We all need some fun.
Big is one of my all-time-favorite movies from my childhood, solidifying Tom Hanks in my all-time-favorite actors category at an early age, before I even had the forethought to makes lists like these =) good picks here funktual, except Liar Liar omg haha to each his own I guess..

Yay, I forgot about Big and Liar Liar. I don't know why you don't still like the giant piano scene. My mall doesn't have a giant piano like that! But yeah Billy is great in the movie. Liar Liar was hilarious. I wouldn't say these movie are in my top thirty but they are in the top hundred. FBDO is funny too. I love when the car falls and when the sister beats up the principal. I haven't seen that movie in forever but I remember bits and pieces of it! And of course Christmas Story is a classic. Love it.
