Based on the Jean Shepherd novel "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash", this is the one we either love or dread once a year, every year. I personally spent about six or seven years away from the tradition because I was all laughed out on Ralphie and the gang. Two years ago, I was home visiting my folks who are grandparents now and the sound of my nephew's laughter when Randy can't put his arms down put all that disdain to bed forever. Lucky thing too cause it's still fuckin' funny as hell.

A Christmas Story ~ 1983

Ralphie, Randy, Mom and The Old Man make us feel better about the whole holiday mayhem. There are scenes in it that remain so overplayed that we go and say hello to a relative during it, such as...

1. The tongue on the pole bit.
2. The father mourning the broken lamp.
3. The bunny suit.
4. The blinded-by-soap-poisoning dream.
5. and fra-gee-lay!

However I still get quite a thrill from..

1. Watching Scut Farkus get his ass kicked!

2. Watching Randy eat like a piggie!

3. Watching the moment when Daddy didn't 'kill Ralphie' cause the hero Mom leaves him out of the loop and "things were different between me and my Mom from that day forward."

4. Watching This Clip!!! ^^^^

5. and fah ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra rahhh!

It is at number 25 for obvious reasons, I get korny sometimes. Ba!

By the way the writer Jean Shepherd also plays the narrator and I ask you, "How many times do we get to hear a story straight from the authors mouth in a film?" His voice sounded like 1940's Chicago because he was there, he's playing Adult Ralphie because he IS Adult Ralphie! Now think about how would Stand By Me have sounded with Stephen King narrating instead of Richard Dreyfuss? Whoa.

Two Funny Movies with the same problem! They are over-exposed! When you've seen anything funny 14 or more times it tends to get annoying!

This is also before Tom Hanks get so over-exposed we wanted to puke on him. I swear for like six years after Gump I couldn't even look at this man who had cracked me up for so long. Moving On.

12 year old Josh Baskin makes a wish on a Zoltar machine to be big and it comes true with a vengeance. His Mom (Mercedes Ruehl) attacks him thinking he's a kidnapper so he flees with his best friend Billy to Manhattan. The following scenes are again so overplayed I wanna puke like..

The odyssey of Kevin Smith movies begins right here! Dante and Randal have jobs they don't care for and customers they care for even less. Dante runs a convenience store and Randal the video store, unless of course he happens to be at a 'decent video place' renting movies he can't get at his own. Dante attends and crashes a funeral thanks to his HS buddy who knocks over the casket. The entire day is one funny thing after another with the highlight being Dante's girlfriend Veronica admitting how many blowjobs she's given.

Fletcher Reede is a bad father. He lies to his son Max and ex-wife Audrey so much that they are starting to lose affection for him. The son makes a wish at his birthday party (which Fletcher fails to attend) that his Dad can't tell a lie for just one day. Comedy ensues. No matter what the circumstances, Fletcher can not lie and considering he is an attourney, that could be an altogether difficult day.

Matthew Broderick is one of those actors that we take for granted because he does it so effortlessly every time. The great comedies he was in that didn't make the list are...
