How's That For A Sun Bonnet!

Nappy, Diaper, Whatever You Want To Call Them

They are darn useful things to have around the house.

There are the obvious reasons for having diapers and that is to keep your floors and carpets from getting soiled when the wee ones have the urge to go.

What else can they be used for?

Well off the top of my head, I can think of a lot of things that they can and sometimes have been used for.

  • They are great as sunbonnets for when you take the tyke out to the park and you realize that he is getting too much sun on his head.
  • They are excellent at mopping up spills of water. Do you have any idea how much of a leak a size 6 diaper can pick up? It is phenomenal.
  • I always have one in the car for cleaning the windscreen.
  • They also come in handy for picking birds and roadkill out of the grill of your car if you are in a carpark and you notice that you have an uninvited attachment, just whip out the nappy, open it up, pluck out the offending guest and then fold it up neatly and wrap and discard in the nearest trash receptacle.
  • You can open them up and put them in your window to keep the sun off the kids.
  • Great as a first aid article. They soak up a lot of blood. You can wrap them around a cut or break and they bind up nicely with a bit of duct tape. They also cushion it a wee bit. Depends on if you get the cheap brand of diaper or not.
  • You can stick them under doors to keep out a draft.
  • You can put a little bit of water in them and use them to wrap around the stems of flowers and give them as novelty gifts to your friends. Bet you've never received one of those before.
  • Great for when you are moving, you can wrap all your little treasures in them, and write on the diaper what is inside so you don't have to go searching forever when you are unpacking. They are cushioned and the velcro makes it nice and snug.
  • Stick them under chair and table legs when you want to move furniture, then you can slide it across the floor without making marks.
  • I use one to wrap around the detox machine parts. It draws any moisture away from the metal and acts as a cushion.
  • They make novel wraps for birthday gifts and you can pretty much choose the patterns for your friends.
  • Excuse me for this one but the ladies can use them if they run out of feminine products, until they get to the store.
  • They make excellent nursing pads for women who produce more than the average tiny little circle of fluff can hold.
  • They can be cut up and used as fillers for any product that needs a bit of padding.
  • They can also be wrapped once again using those very handy velcro straps around any offending sharp article that you have a tendency to rub against.

They can be used for picking up broken glass, lessening the risk of cutting yourself and wrapping up for disposal with less chance of the garbage men getting poked.

I know that I said 101 but as you can see, there are a multitude of reasons to keep a diaper close at hand at all times.

Especially if you have a child that needs it.

I am sure that if you put your thinking caps on, you can come up with some that I haven't listed.

They are certainly a great accessory and if you haven't already got any, put a couple in the car just in case of a fluid emergency.

Great for picking up hot dishes.

I read once where a guy wore one when trying to rob a store. When the clerk made a face, backed away and sniffed, the crook must have thought it was used and took it off - and his face was right there in front of the camera!

I love your ideas!

We keep them in the tack room for horse first aid kit. We use them to hold the packing on a horse's hoof with a stone bruise (cover hoof with the diaper, then wrap with ducck tape) and they work as padding under a bandage, holding on a poltice, etc.

Remember the astranaut who wore one to drive cross-country? Don't tell me a few people haven't tried that since then? Wackos.

If diapers weren't so darned expensive I'd use them for everything. I just can't keep up with the price. Good reason to train early.

I never thought of using one as a feminine product. Ha-ha. I don't think it would work. Seems a little too big to stick... under there... Ha-ha.

Although we don't have any diapers. (I am the youngest in my whole family.) Ha-ha. It was a very creative hub. I will have to remember when I am a mother.

Good work.

I remember the days of diapers. When my two were little I used mostly cloth diapers - just disposable diapers on trips. You are right, I used them for a lot of things until they fineally just wore out.

My daughter is, well, I won't tell you how old exactly she is, but I still have a few of her cloth diapers. They are the BEST rags, compresses, mop-ups. My mother, who washed all of my didies by hand when I was growing up, could tell you how to use them as weapons when you are mad at your husband. Great hub!

He puts the diaper on his head himself. It is his idea of holding it for me when I am changing him.
