To Roomba or Not to Roomba, That is the Question
Should you buy a Roomba? Here are 12 reasons why you should buy one:
1. A robotic vacuum will get you oohs and aahs. It's a robot!
2. It works for YOU! A robotic vacuum puts you in command.
3. Your robotic vacuum won't talk back or complain about doing the vacuuming.
4. It's never off sick. When your robotic vacuum feels tired, it retreats to its self-charging home base. Soon after, it's as good as new and ready to tackle the next dirty floor.
5. Looks and coolness aside, a robotic vacuum truly delivers. It's your ticket to freedom from one of the dullest, most time-consuming jobs ever.
6. Your floors will be cleaner, and be clean more often, with a robotic vacuum in the house. Most people don't vacuum every day, and rarely do a good job under heavy furniture. But a robotic vacuum can, and does. You can program it to work at a set time every 24 hours!
7. As you'll no longer have dust accumulating under beds and sofas when you get a robotic vacuum, you'll likely see an improvement in allergy symptoms.
8. A robotic vacuum is basically plug and play. After a few minutes of setting up on the first day, you can trust your robot to vacuum virtually unsupervised (although you might sit around watching it slack-jawed a lot). All you really need to do is pick up what's not supposed to be on the floor (clothes, socks, magazines).
9. If you have back pain or mobility problems, a robotic vacuum is a godsend!
10. Got a pet that sheds hair? You'll see a dramatic improvement in your living space once you get a robotic vacuum doing a daily deepclean. You still may want a hand vac to clean pet hair off your sofas though.
11. You needn't worry about your robotic vacuum falling down stairs. It has a built-in cliff sensor function that stops it at the edge. You'll see what I mean if you watch the Roomba table dance video on this page.
12. You don't have to do much for your robotic vacuum, other than clean the roller brushes now and then, and empty it. But that's part of the fun! Just slide out the dirt drawer and be amazed at what your robot picks up (pennies, apricot pits, toast crusts, and more debris, dust and fuzz than could possibly be in your house).
Of course, you should buy a Roomba! But then, I'm partial. Since my first Roomba joined the family, I've been head over heels in love with him. He's my personal helper, and always does his job without complaint.

13. Works as an alarm clock.
I set mine to wake me up every morning by starting its automatic cleaning cycle. Although it is not very loud it does emit a few beeps as it backs away from its charging base which is plenty to wake me. It's like having my oun maid wake me up.
Good one, Brooke! I never thought of that. My Roomba is a late riser - goes to work at 9:30.
Hi BarbaraMay! Great post. We have the Roomba and the Scooba and love them both. If you have hardwood floors, you MUST get the Scooba. You forgot to mention the entertainment aspect for your pets. We have 3 cats and one of them thinks the Roomba is her personal toy. I was having a cup of coffee the other morning and heard the Roomba start up. I knew that I hadn't programmed it to start at that time, so I went to check it out. Sure enough, my little girl had figured out how to press the start button. She's done it twice since then. I'm looking for a spot to relocate it so she can't get to the button. I have to remember to set up the camcorder on a tripod to get a shot of that one before I move it though.
Hi Katherine,
Glad you like the hub and I hope you make that video! I'd love to see your cat turn Roomba on.
If you want, you can post the video at my FaceBook group, Home Robots Today.

Yes! My reason for buying one was dog hair! Now I'm thinking about buying a robot to wash my floors too.
