17th Edition Training

You may need 17th Edition Training if you are an electrician, student or maybe designing new electrical equipment. The new 17th edition was produced back in January 2008 with it becoming a legal requirement on the 1st July 2008. Without this qualification an electrician is not legally allowed to conduct business in a domestic sector.

However, depending on when an electrician passed their original exam would determine what new exam they must sit. Those who are new or passed their exam before June 2001 will have to sit a 2 hour, 60 question exam. Whereas those who passed the 16th Edition only need to sit a 1 hour, 30 question exam.

The downside of this regulation is that time must be spent learning the new details. It can be fairly difficult as not only is the information updated but it has been bought into line with current European documents.

Although it may seem like difficult situation, there can be help at hand. There are many places where you can learn about the 17th Edition to help you pass the exam. The City & Guilds offer two courses to cover the different exams for example.

How Do You Eat An Elephant

One bite at a time!

This is the same for your revision. It is easy to look at the information and think " How am I going to learn all that!" by doing that you will feel like you already have a mountain to climb.

The easiest way to breakdown your revision is only try to complete half a chapter at a time. You are aiming only to sit down for 30 minutes at any one time. Do this at least twice a day and you will be ready for the exam in no time!

Mix up your 17th edition revision

Did you know if you revise in the way your brain likes, you can learn the 17th edition in half the time you would normally?

Some studies have shown that there are a number of different ways in which the human brain learns new information. The key is working out which way is the best for you.

Here you can try a few different techniques that may be just right for you.

  • Make notes, more notes and then make even more notes - By writing the information in words that you are comfortable with will help with the learning process
  • Try reading your notes out loud - Some people remember more if they hear the information. Obviously this may not work if on a busy train!
  • Doodle your notes - If you prefer visual learning try drawing your notes in mind maps or tables
  • Commit to tape - You can always try to record yourself onto a MP3. That way you can turn your car into a moving library!

Try out these techniques and find out which one will help you pass the 17th edition exam
